Foot pain

Does anyone have foot pain? Any good resolutions for it? The only thing I've tried so far is Diabet Aid Pain and Tingling Relief Lotion it helps for about an hour or so but says to only use it 4 times a day - I am a new diabetic so I dont know if there is something else I should be looking at to fix my feet.

I also have the foot pain - neuropathy. I have tried the Diabet Aid lotion and it doesn't do much for me.

I mentioned the problem to my doctor when I recently had an appointment. Along with prescribing me Lantus for my blood sugars, she also prescribed a drug called Nortryptiline. It's an anti-depressant that also acts as a pain blocker for chronic pain. You have to gradually increase the dosage every week. I'm on week two and taking two pills a night. The maximum dosing for chronic pain is 5 pills (50 mg).

I also read on another board about a nutritional supplement called Alpha Lipoic Acid. It can be purchased at Walmart or Trader Joe's, comes in capsules of 100 mg each. According to the reading I did, some people found relief from the neuropathy by taking 600 mg of ALA a day. I went out and bought some at my local Trader Joe's and started using it about a week ago.

I have also read that getting your blood sugar levels down to normal will help with neuropathy.

For me, the pain seems to be easing (it's not totally gone yet) - I am having less frequent episodes of shooting, stabbing pain, but the burning is still present.

Whether the "improvement" is due to the drug my doctor supplied, the ALA supplement or my lower blood sugar level (they aren't at what I'd call "normal" all the time, but they are overall lower than what they were a few weeks ago) or a combination of all of the above, I couldn't tell you.

I long for the day that the pain is completely gone.

I use generic Neurontin for the neuropathy, cheaper than Nortriptyline if thats an issue for you.
