I have NO idea davef, but congratulations on the first five days. I know this is tough on you. But, not as tough as lung cancer. Keep up the good work! I am rooting for you.

Dave, the reason I want to be done with smokes is that I was in the hospital a couple months ago and the nurse teaching me about diabetes said she would rather see me quit smoking then quit junk food. and then the book you suggested to me by Gretchen Becker said almost all amputations are done on smokers.

I suspect you might see higher sugars for awhile due to stress and the need to stuff things into your craw (food). Search hard for some good comfort food.

Dave,

congratulations!!

I smoked for years and 5 years ago I quit cold turkey. I had quit many years before and started up again. But 5 years ago. I had a very long talk with myself . The very main reason I stopped was I told myself. "that you are too smart to do something as useless as breathing in damaged air".

It has been 5 years and I saw the improvement in weeks. The first few days are the real deal but each day counts. You will feel a vitality you didn't know you had. I use to be embarrassed by my shortness of breath. When I answered the phone, people would say that I didn't have to run to get it. I was simply walking across the room. Although the improvement is gradual, being able to take a deep breath is a delight, I could smell things again and things did taste better. My thinking became clearer. It makes me sad that I didn't do it sooner but I don't live in regret. I am thrilled that I did it. You will be too.

No matter what, this is the most important gift you can give yourself. It is a true Act of Self Love.

I am proud that you have begun this healing process. people are rooting for you.

Peace

Jerry

Wow! I have never read the book, is this true?

I quit smoking in January, but I have fallen off the wagon the last few weeks.

No change in my sugars but you need to stay busy doing other things, so you dont get tempted to head to the Kitchen looking for "goodies".

Keep up the good work!

I had completely forgotten that, or maybe I had decided not to remember it.

I actually have had any desire to stuff my face, but have some peanuts and cashews on hand just in case.

Well today is the start of my 6th day and I haven't seen any real difference in my BG. The main reason for doing this was to get my BP down, it better darn work!

Dave,
From when I got my asbests certs, many years ago.

Under a microscope, your throat looks like a wheat field in the back. Tiny, tiny hairs called cellia are there. They constantly thrust upward in a back an forth motion. They clear your throat of dust and inhaled debris. Nicotine paralizes them. If you smoke long enough you kill them. If you smoke, when you are asleep and the nicotine is leaving your system, they will work first thing in the morning. That is smokers hack, first thing in the morning. No smoking, they work all of the time, and the hack will go away.

Well I have now completed my first week off the smokes, it is getting much easier. I haven't noticed any change in my BG, but that's fine - I'm just hoping that I see an improvement in my BP.

Thanks for the support!

Maybe this can help.

Before I stop smoking, I played with my head. I tried using the words "stop smoking" because the word "Quit" in my mental vocabulary implied failure. Smoking cessation is a benefit. Like for my weight loss, I chose to refer to it as reducing my body weight and not Loosing weight.

I read many things but I heard of this study done in Germany for smoking cessation. Doctors disputed the whole concept of nicotine withdrawal being the real challenge. They claim that the real relaxation of smoking actually came for the inhaling ,deep breathing. Deep Breathing is know to relax ourselves and is a main component to Yoga. They claimed that what our bodies missed was not the inhaling of smoke but the deep breathing. Early on I tried it and it seemed to relax me. So when I felt the urge i took a very deep breath. Also, I stopped in the Spring. That summer there wasn't one weed on my property. I found that being physically occupied kept me distracted and eventually the urge went away. Sugarless gum helped with the oral fixation. Like some else mention, getting pass the stress is a challenge and may be contributing to your numbers not receding

You will win this challenge. Just some thoughts.

Jerry
