More Problems

Okay. This will be long. In April 2008 I was diagnosed Type 2. My A1C was 13.3. My cataract surgery was postponed. Through low carb diet , many meds (eventually up to 1000 metformin am, 1000 metformin pm, actos 30mg am, torsemide, potassium, norvasc, synthroid, baby aspirin), exercise, and losing 60 lbs with sept. a1c at 5.7 and fasting bg at 90 I did have my cataract surgery the end of August.I have just been told to quit all metformin, torsemide and potassium because I have diminished kidney function. I questioned what would happen with my diabetes and their reply was that right now they are more worried about my kidneys. I have a dr. appt on Monday at 4 pm and will need to have ultrasounds, renal specialists and other tests which will be discussed monday.
Does anyone have any encouraging words because right now I feel in the pits.
Barb.

Barb,
Don't worry about having to stop metformin. Like your doc said, kidneys are more important. Wait and see how your kidney test results are. There is always different types of meds for diabetes. Your kidneys are far more important.

I think your a1c is excellent. You should have put in a lot of work (believe me.... I know ) Normal blood sugar levels would help your kidney functions as well. So wait till you get your results. Keep up your good work

You have your A1c way down, so you are at a good point. Also if you watch your carbs, exercise and continue to lose weight you may well find that you can keep your BS under control.

Look after your kidneys. Speak up with your doctors and express your concerns to them, don't let them brush you off. Your improved BS will probably help with other issues.

Could my high protein, low carb diet have any effect on my diminished kidneys?

Numbers okay

All right. I had to stop my metformin, my diuretic and potassium because I have diminished kidney function until I see my regular doctor (Monday) or the renal specialist who he is sending me to. Stopped those meds Friday and my numbers are still okay. Highest was 128 2 hr. post meal so I will just watch everything I eat and now everything I drink.
Does anyone else here have diminished kidney function.
Barb
