High fasting Bg

My morning Bg reading upon waking is always high and then lowers during the day.....
I thought this reading should be the lowest or am I mistaken? And in the past couple of days my ankles have become puffy not huge but enough to notice, and are still puffy when I get out of bed of a morning.

FYI I am not overweight and I have gotten my Bg reading down from 25 to 8.1

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

I noticed you recently started metformin, seen any results? I have been on it 4 weeks and all I have noticed is my fasting level is lower...but daytime is higher???? anyway, i think the metformin should help you with FBG.

the swollen ankles I would call your doctor about right NOW.
might be no big deal, might be a very big deal.

Actos can cause you to retain water and may be the reason for your puffy ankles.

I was on it for a number of years and didn't realize what was causing my feet to swell up until I came off of it.

I would contact the dr but it is sunday morning here and I do have an appointment for 9am tomorrow!

I have only been taking Metaformin just over a week so I have not noticed any change as yet.

Thank you for your reply I think

I have read lots of t2 stories about taking quite a while to see the metformin start working. A few eeks to have it kick in, a few months to get the dosing right, some more time spent splitting the doses morning and night - a lot of 'playing' around.

Don't give up hope

Thanks Mike. I guess I need to be more patient in my haste to control this beast

I don't see Actos in your list in your signature. I don't see how that could cause your leg puffiness if you aren't taking it.

MY own MD doesn't seem to think much of my slightly swollen lower legs and ankles. I think maybe he has seen so many grotesquely swollen limbs that he doesn't think it signals much problem at all. I have never been able to figure it out, though. Can't relate it to my meds and can't relate it to my diet. Can't relate it to my activity or inactivity. Can't relate it to menstrual cycle or perimenopause. ???? It does come and go. Right now it has been gone for a month and a half.

I think going from a BG of 450 to 196 in 6 days just by low carb eating is fantastic! I don't think you will find the metformin gives nearly as much improvement as the low-carbing does, but I wish you luck, so that it might get your BGs the rest of the way down! I do credit metformin for my good morning BGs (along with low-carbing of course!) My morning goal is 85-95 --eh, 4.7-5.3-- and that is from someone 16 years diabetic and first diagnosed with an A1c of 13.2. I do take a large amount of metformin, though.

Good luck; be patient; and know that if one approach does not work well enough, you can always add another or switch to another.
