| | | You start to get a feel for what foods are supposed to do for your BS in time. If I get a result that I feel is too high, I always wash and retest. It's happened to me a few times.

| | | According to Calore King book I have, it lists brussell sprouts as having 6 grams carbs per 1/2 cup.
Do you count your carb intake? Remember carbs break down to sugar

| | | I think it was just a handwashing issue. I have done the same thing myself. If the reading is way off, I just scrub my hands real good and try again. Usually I fall back into range.

| | | Pay attention to how you feel too. I generally know when I'm high and when my meter is lying to me, which it rarely does. |

| | | Never, ever use alcohol swabs.
Just wash your hands.
If you're even sort of counting carbs after a meal you have a pretty good idea of what you're going to test at. If the test is "Whoa where did that come from" retest. Something is wrong.
I don't mind if my BS goes way up after a meal if I know I've eaten something I shouldn't have. That's expected.
But when it's "sat what!!!" then I'll always retest or go back and try to figure out what I did wrong.
I don't always succeed.

I had my usual bedtime snack of a cracker and peanut butter an hour early last night, and took my blood sugar just before bed and it was 181 ! Took it again a few minutes later after washing my hands and it was 129.
This morning I woke up to 123 fasting blood sugar which is the LOWEST I have seen in YEARS!

Art | Why shouldn't you use alcohol swabs? I use cotton balls soaked in alcohol all the time because it's the best way to kill germs. Of course I make sure that the alcohol is totally dried up before I test so that there isn't any alcohol mixing with the blood sample.
