Good news about my son!

I posted in chit chat about my son and him wanting to become an OTR driver. We didn't think he'd make it because his bs #'s were kind of high, but with a change in diet and loads of determination, he passed his driving test and he's officially going to be driving for Swift Trucking! His orientation is next Monday!

Thanks to all who kept me positive about this big change. He is actually listening to me and my 'tips' on low carb eating and testing more frequently. He listened to the doc who called him on his high bs #'s too.

I am such a proud momma! I am so proud of my son!!! I wish he was here to hug on him for a bit! *happy tears*

That was excellent incentive for him to get his #'s under control. Wonderful news for him! Congrats.

Good for him on getting a decent job. The economic life of my brother and his family was turned around and secured when he landed an OTR trucking job.

However, my husband and I have a couple of restaurants that we liked whenever we drove through certain cities. They were the type that truck drivers are famous for visiting. The food was delicious and seemed "homemade" but oh my goodness it would be an unhealthy way to eat day in & day out. The proportions were gargantuan --way bigger than the servings that so many restaurants already serve. Much of it was batter-fried and butter enriched. I have never seen such a number of horribly unhealthy looking people as at those truckers diners. The poor guys sit in their trucks many hours a day and then sit down to meals like this? I guess the healthier drivers are eating somewhere else. Hope your son doesn't get sucked onto that kind of restaurant often if he will be OTR.

Thanks everyone! My son plans to supply his own food and stock his cab with the amenities he'll need to cook and take care of himself. He's well aware of the crappy foods out there. His first purchase will be a cooler that he can keep plugged into the cig. lighter. He is really stoked for this new job.

Congratulations, Debbie Sue:

It is so great for you to see your son take up a good career that he obviously was so interested in. Also--how great for both of you that he is looking after his health better. I know as a Mom that we don't stop worrying just because our kids are adults now!

Debbie,

That's really great news, good to see that he is achieving his dream. Great for you that he's taking care of himself as it will be less for his mom to worry about.

So congrats all round, tell him your DF Family says well done and to take care of himself and his mom!

Debbie Sue, a huge Congrats to your son and to you, too. Your nudging him in the right direction about food and testing, plus about the job have helped him find a career he can carry through his life.

I wish you were closer in miles to be able to hug on him, my son also lives far away and I haven't seen him in 3 years (he is 24) and each day that passes without a hug is hard indeed.

May the happiness you are feeling these days pass on into the future,

Cass
