| | | This probably belongs elsewhere, but would somebody be kind enough to maybe make a sticky, especially for newly diagnosed diabetics, that contains all the common abbreviations, slang, etc.
Sometimes I read posts and I'm like, what the **** is NPH or MDI I know the common ones, but I'm sure some people come to this site and don't know even what GP, IR or DKA means.
There's an awful lot of abbreviations out there, I thought it might be helpful.

| | | NPH is a kind of long lasting insulin. MDI is multiple daily injections.

| | | Good idea JPS! I always slip into medical lingo and abbreviations that i use at work...even when i am writing a note to my kids' teachers for simple words like "with" and "after"...my problem has always been the BG translations of the different countries...i know there is a converter, but that takes effort...and one of the posts i'm currently following has quite a large number of conversions! guess i need to print out a cheat sheet!

| | | If I notice I'm talking to a newbie, I try not to throw abbreviations around without telling what they stand for. I may say something like, "Check your blood glucose (BG) level every morning, then again check your BG after every meal," or "Diabetic ketoacidosis" (DKA) is unlikely in a well controlled type 2."
In general I do not like to find many stickies on top of a forum. I'd rather have FAQs and a separate list of jargon and abbreviations accessible through links. A lot of stickies make a forum feel stale and sometimes bossy. |

~Tommy | All the great info I've learned from DF, I copy and paste into their own folders on my computer. I have folders for books, carbs, pumping, insulin, diet , humor etc. So, when there is some thing I want to remember, I have it saved for futher references.

| | | I found your post while searching for the meanings of these abbreviations. I wholeheartedly agree. I've been a member for only a few days and I find myself constantly trying to figure out what all the TLAs, (3-letter acronyms), mean. I thought maybe there would be a table in the FAQ. I'm sure as time goes on they will become second nature to me, but seeing them all for the 1st time is a little bewildering. |

| | | It's a "sticky note" with useful/important information that stays at or near the top of a forum. Sort of like putting a post-it note on the fridge with your mom's cell phone number or an appointment or something like that.
