| IrishJoe, your sig cracked me up. lol.
RE the original thread, I was diagnosed a year ago and spent a week in the hospital. I didn't know I was diabetic, just really sick... my blood sugar was beyond high.. and it was causing my body to shut down. Had I opted to stay home one more night and sleep it off rather than going to the ER, I'd probably be dead, or I may've ended up in a coma or worse.
I've had nothing but stupid ****ty complications from it, and since it almost killed me from the get-go, I can relate to the fear and stress, and overwhelming influx of bad news that comes with it.
How they tell you all the worst news, point blank, without explaining any of it.
The truth is, all the **** they tell you is highly preventable, and always a worst case scenario.
It seems like 80% of is just keeping your blood sugar down...
To do that, you'll eat right, exercise, take your meds, and so long as you're doing that, you'll be fine for a long time.
You won't go blind next year, and your leg won't go black and die in your sleep.
It takes a lot of neglect to get in that sorta bad shape.
And yeah, knowledge is power - the more you know, the less scary it becomes.
Cliche, but welcome to the club. = P |
