Does anyone know if this true?

| | Never heard that one before. That's pretty funny.
It is made from e. coli bacteria using recombinant DNA technology. here's a link: Recombinant DNA: Example Using Insulin

| | | When I was diagnosed, the endo in the hospital raved about "human" insulin and how great it was compared to animal insulin. I was diagnosed in 1987 so I don't know how new Lilly's Humulin line of insulin was then.
Human insulin (Lilly's Humulin brand (NPH/Regular) and Novo's Novolin brand) is a lot cheaper than the newer insulin analogs. With those, they change the sequence around a bit to change the rate of onset & absorption. Since it's not technically insulin (it's slightly different than the Humulin/Novolin stuff) they get to call it an insulin analog, make it a prescription only item (in the USA) and charge 3-4 times as much for it.
I'm glad for the analogs. Humalog is so much better for me than Regular ever was (and NPH was ****) but the difference in price and availability is disgusting!
