Janumet 50/500 mg

So, I my A1C is 7.1 when I got diagnoised 2 weeks back and my GP has put me on Metformin 500 mg once a day. I went to a specialist yesterday and he prescribed Janumet 50/500mg twice a day.

I don't know whether to shift to it or not? What is the difference between Metformin and Janumet? And why did the doc increase the dose..he didn't even test my BS again on the visit. He just prescribed based on the earlier test results.

What do you suggest guys, do I need to stop Metformin and switch to Janumet.

I don't know anything about Janumet, but I'd say that it really depends on what you're levels have been since being put on the Metformin. If they're low with it, then I would think taking Janumet on top of it would only make them even lower, which wouldn't be good either. But, if you're levels are still high, then you could benefit from taking Janumet.

I think I'd call one, or both, of the doctors and talk them again about it.

Good luck!

Janumet 50/500 is 500mg of Metformin (same as you've been taking) plus 50mg of Januvia (sitigliptin). I currently take a 50/500 Janumet in the morning and 1000mg metformin in the evening; could just be that your specialist has seen better results with the Janumet than with the metformin alone.

He's starting you off with the twice daily dose to really get you under control.
As time passes and there's more data on how you're reacting modifications will come.

Diabetes is a very dynamic thing. It's constantly changing. Different doc's have different approaches.

Go with the endo's treatment for now and see what happens.

In a little while you will be your own best doctor.

I take the same thing 50/500 twice a day. I was experiencing lows in the mid morning and tried switching to 100mg Januvia and 500mg Metformin per day. I found that with that formula I couldn't keep my numbers down. I was getting readings up around 170-190. Went back to the Janumet (50/500 x 2) and am fairly stable in the 90-125 range, I just have to account for the mid-morning low.

I will admit.. the frist few days the body needs to get use to it my TuMMMy ugh but it helped stop my hunger , had nooooooo desire to overeat , lost 21 pounds with it too. My A1C is 6.8 from 12.5 (4 months) i think it is awesome it works for me!! oohh here in Texas since it is fairly new expensive little bugger compared to Metformin
