My numbers

My fasting bg levels are about 130 - 140 and 2 hours post breakfast it is still 140 - 150. And 2 hrs post lunch and dinner it's 140mg/dl again. So this means throughout the day the number is around 140 but doesn't come down to normal!!?? This means that my blood sugar is not under control, right?

I have started taking metformin 500mg twice a day and altered my diet too but have not completely reduced carbs. Probably reduction of carbs and increase in exercise would bring a change in the numbers. Any suggestions on this matter are greatly appreciable. Thanks.

What is your regular diet and exercise regimen like? It's hard to give you meaningful suggestions without more facts.

Diet is not really great but I've greatly reduced carb intake and increased my fiber and proteins. I've started exercise for 30mins on treadmill and I am burning only 150 cals with that. Planning to increase it gradually.

If you have only just started Metformin you need to remember that it can take 3-5 weeks to see it taking effect. It's not like insulin and it won't immediately bring your numbers down.

Over the next few weeks, if you keep plugging away at the exercise, watch your food and with the Metformin you will see your numbers come down.

What kind of carbs are you eating? You need to look at the kinds of carbs you are eating.

How much were you eating, and how much have you reduced. Dependingn on your starting point, you may need to reduce your carb intake even more. For example, if you used to eat 5 slices of white bread every meal, reducing it to 3 slices would not be enough.

Keep a food journal so you can keep track of what you are eating. I don't count carbs, but from testing, keeping a food journal and a lot of trial, error and observation, I know that I can't eat more than 3 tablespoons of rice at any meal.

Ya, should try and keep a food journal. Somehow I am always not consistent in maintaining one..I write for 2 days and then wouldn't write at all and then again start if after a month and it goes on like this. But I know how important it is. So should again start keeping one.

As dave said, you may find your numbers will continue to improve the longer you're on the metformin. Watch the carbs and get regular exercise, both of which may help bring #s down.
