Sugars in foods

Is there any limit on the quantity of sugars intake like carbs? For eg: A snack bar I had today had 3 gms of sugars and 4 gms of alcoholic sugars and 17 gms carbs. How do I count the sugar gms..should I add them to the carbs too?

The sugars should be included in the total carbs but that's not the whole story. Sugars are the simplest of carbs and react the quickest to raise blood sugar. If you are pumping and using dual wave to bolus, the more sugar in an item, the more insulin you want up front. Conversely, the more complex a carbohydrate, the longer it takes to break down and the longer it will take to turn into blood sugar. For instance, brown rice is better than white, whole grain is better than plain white bread.

If you look on the nutritional label of what you are eating you will see "Total Carbohydrates", indented under that are the sugars and fiber - that means they are all included in the total. Subtract the fiber and half the sugar alcohols and you have roughly the amount of carbs you body "sees" when you eat it.
