| | When to exercise??? I've been exercising 25 minutes in the morning (stationary bike) and 15 minutes in the afternoon. However, my FBG isn't going below 130 and my 2 hour after supper BG is usually around 170. All of my other BG's are within normal limits during the day and at bedtime. My 2 hour after eating breakfast is under 120, too. I eat a late lunch and my level remains below 120. I do eat more protein for breakfast because I started going hypo the second day on Amaryl.
Would it be worth a try to exercise 15 minutes in the morning and then do 25 minutes in the afternoon to see if this will help my FBG and my 2 hour after supper reading?
I've been on Amaryl 2 mg in the morning since 1/6/09, and I take Glucophage XR 500 mg at night. I understand about the importance of not staying on Amaryl for an extended time thanks to this forum, and I'm so glad that I found this place, and respect your suggestions and advice.

| | | Kick it up a notch! When I wake up at 5:00am I go on my stationary bike.. I have the bike programmed for a 200 cal cross-straining burn. This takes about 25 minutes at 18mph.
I use level 06. After the bike I do 30 80lb curls, 20 overhead presses, 30 situps (I know I'm working on it) , 50 touch toes.
By the time I'm done the wife is done with the shower.
When I get home from work, 30 minutes after supper I do the same as above but I repeat 3 times. So that's a 600 cal burn. Total of 800 cal burn on the bike. So far my 30 day average is 130 mg/l ... not bad. Pretty soon I will be ready to step it up a notch and add 10 more pounds to the weights. I lost 20lbs so far. I've been doing this for 2 months.
Keep it up. It takes time.
I eat eggs for breakfast most of the time. Lunch I have a Kaschi frozen dinner (low carb).
You really need more excersize time. It takes me 20 minutes just to work up a sweat. The 1.5hr in the evening really helps me.
15 minutes isn't enough!
What I do is put my Ipod playing and listen to that. |

When I ride my bike for 25 minutes, I go about 6 miles and burn up about 330 calories. When I ride for 15 minutes, I go about 3.5 miles and burn up about 150 calories. I have to really keep up with my BG in the afternoons or I will start bottoming out. I can't stand that feeling. It's scary, just like another poster had in a earlier thread. That's why I thought that cutting back in the mornings would help head that off as well.

And, yes, most guys and gals differ when it comes to exercise. I love it. I was once in athletic shape, but that was 20 years ago. I probably not get in that good of shape, but I am at the point to where I look forward to exercising.
As far as carbs, I have cut back a lot. It's the hardest part, too. If I snack, it's a wheat cracker with sugar free peanut butter or some cheese. I do make all of my bread. It has become a hobby. If I eat white bread, I only limit it to 2 - 3 slices a day. Potatoes and rice has been cut back with little problem. The bread is the hardest part for me, really. I once said years ago, that if I ever became a diabetic that it would be so very difficult because I love bread. Tonight we are having broccoli soup. I had sausage and an egg this morning. I had some cheese and crackers with sugar free peanut butter this afternoon. I don't like to eat anything past 6 unless I start feeling hypo. It's just going to take a while since I just started the Amaryl. I was on Byeatta twice a day and the Glucophage at night.
