I like the taste of cinnamon, and will sprinkle it on apples, into my hot tea or s/f apple cider or cocoa. I took the cinnamon capsules in the past, but they gave me stomach burns, so I stopped. Try and see how they work for you.

There is a lot of people that will tell you cinnamon doesn't work, and perhaps that's true. I tend to think that it does work, at least for me. I take Metformin 500 mg in the morning and the evening, but I also two two 1000 mg cinnamon during the day - usually one before/with lunch, and one about two hours after that. I've noticed for myself that when I take cinnamon that my numbers are at least 50 points different than when I don't. Without it I tend to go high during the day while having good numbers in the morning and evenings. But with cinnamon I stay pretty much consistent all day.
PrincessLinda is right about it causing some stomach pain. I found that out the hard way when I tried to take four of them in a day (it's what the bottle said!).
Good luck, give it a try and see if it helps you out. Every person is different.
I'll offer no facts on these things, just a humble opinion.
I use cinnamon all the time. Love the stuff! I don't think it helps at all with D.
As far as natural supplements go, I'm much more interested in resveratrol (found in highest concentrations in muscadine grape skin) and tart cherries.
I think a few extra push-ups and a mile or two of hilly walking are more effective than all of the above though.
I use cinnamon when cooking chicken. A generous sprinkling all over makes it very crisp and yummm![]()
Be nicer than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
I took cinnamon capsules for a long time (cinnaomn cassia, specifically, as that was what I found was supposed to be the "good" kind in my reading)--made my burps taste great! I even actually once burped a little cloud of cinnamon; it was pretty cool.
But no, no effect on my D as far as I could tell.

Welcome to the world Benjamin David! Born March 24, 2012!
Diagnosed Type 2 May 21, 2008, A1C 9.5, Fasting Glucose 214
Had Duodenal Switch (DS) surgery to resolve diabetes on March 27, 2009.
Most recent A1Cs prior to surgery: 8.1 and 7.9 while on 2500mg metformin and 50mg Januvia (sitagliptin)![]()
A1C on 7/10/2009: 5.4![]()
A1C on 12/3/2010: 4.9 (off all meds)
6/9/2011: A1C of 4.6, fasting glucose: 70, fasting insulin: 2
A1C on 10/13/11: 4.8(fasting glucose: 60)
I think with all the stuff we try and are prescribed we probably have the most interesting burps in the world! Not to mention the effects of the Metformin.
Cinnamon sounds like one of the better alternatives at least for considerations of aroma.
I have heard from some that cinnamon does not work either, but it's sold in the diabetes section at the drug stores where I live so maybe someone knows something we don't.
I've also read from many websites that vinegar works to and a lot of people give it high praise.
I take a half teaspoon of cinnamon each morning on yogurt or cereal. It tastes great and seems to work for me. I'm going to start taking it at night as well to see if I can get the morning numbers down.
The only other diabetes medication I take is GTF Chromium, morning and night. Between these two I have (knock on wood) been able to get my numbers under control. Most of my PCP's type 2 patients are also successful on this regimen. YMMV
I don't know if it really does help lower blood sugar, but I like the taste and it does me no harm, nor do I suffer stomach pains. However, I use real cassia cinnamon, not capsules. I use it a lot in my cookiung - in soups, in meat, with vegetables, and practically every day with breakfast, in yogurt and in hot oatmeal, sometimes on toast.
I take every advantage I can - unless something hurts me or is distasteful, I try it. There's nothing to lose and there's only the potential for benefit.
Kind regards,
Shel

"When faced with a challenge, look for a way, not a way out.
that's just too funny! i too often burp the taste of some of my meds but never a cloud of cinnamon... i only take 500mg once a day, don't know if it works or if it's something else i'm taking or doing, but there's no harm in trying it unless it does cause pain for you... i find the capsules don't hurt the stomach like the caplets or powders might...
IF YOU DON'T LIKE CINNAMON THERE ARE ALWAYS PEPPERS
