LOL....I like the ok we will give you a 30-day supply but you need to make an appointment! Like it is some sort of favor. Just tell me when you write it you want me back in 11 months. I'll make an appointment!

This is my very first post, but WOW did you push my button. My mail-in prescripts took 19 days to refill! I was about to flip! I went to doc, got another prescrip and trotted to pharmacy. Pharmacy said company rejected it because it was a maintenance mail-in prescrip.
How do you win?

Who only gives you a 30-day supply? Boy, that would push my buttons too! What happens when it takes 19 days to get your 30 day supply? Do you have to do without meds? Or testing supplies? That seems outrageous to me.

That sounds...special. I'm confused by what you mean about having to beg for refills. Maybe I'm just lucky. I get my refills every month no hassle. I just got and pick it up. I see my doc every three months, and I have never had a problem with running out of a script before then. Maybe this is because I'm just getting strips at the moment?

It is a struggle every month to get my testing supplies, too. Then every six months, I have to send in a log proving I am using them all. The last two times, I cut back on testing because I was afraid I would run out. It was much easier when I could go to the drugstore and get my strips, rather than worry that they would get delivered before I needed them.

I'm curious as to why people use mail order pharmacies. It sounds like they are much more hassle than they are worth.

i was spoiled with my first doc he has retired recently but he would write more refills then i needed gave me free meters and strips he was great then he retired had been to 2 different docs since the first one was nice but forget full ,, he would say oh yeah we will call that in for you ... but forget,, the new one is less forget full but i think its because his med assistant reminds him or does it ,,, but then around oct .. my work insurance changed now i can only get 30 day supply compared to last insurance was 90 day supply .. i just have to go back more but never had to beg for refills that would be annoying ,, guess if they are making you beg you should look for a nicer doctor ...i would

I don't have a choice unless I want to pay for them. Until the last year or so, I got a 3 month supply, which was convenient. I think our supplier is afraid GM will go out of business and not pay anymore.

I didn't realize that there were insurers out there that insisted on mail order pharmacies. That sucks.

My insurance requires mail-order maintence meds. 3 months at a time. But it's hard to figure in their feet-dragging time! I had to go back and beg the doc for another freebie Levemir pen or I would have run out completely. I'm just starting on insulin so I really don't know all the ropes yet. This forum is great! I've learned more on this forum than my Dr. ever mentioned or explained to me. (and I feel like he does a great job!)

I learned to ask for just a little more insulin than I will need, so I do not run out. I was getting to the last bottle/pen and worrying if the new would get here before I used the last of it. My doctor seems to understand this and writes the script so I can do that.

Hi EyoreButterfly. Mail order pharmacies can be nonsensical(inefficient, overpriced, you name it), but many of us use them because our health insurance requires it.

Hassles getting more test strips

Hi...

My insurance will only give me 100 strips per month. I have two separate scripts for 100 strips each, but the insurance won't fill both of them. Considering I test an average of 4x a day, 100 strips will last me 25 days. So, I guess I'll either have to cut down on my tests or buy extra strips. When I go to the doctor, I'm going to ask her to just write a new script for 150 or 200 strips. Maybe then I'll get what I need.

I get my Metformin through a mail order pharmacy, and it's been ok. They just don't carry my strips.
