Are your blood sugars still pretty high? I had a lot of headaches when first diagnosed, and even now if they are higher than normal, I will have a headache.

The leg pains could be neuropathy, and these will hopefully improve significantly once your numbers get and stay under control. There are meds to help with this, so if it continues, talk with your doctor.
    T2, diagnosed 8/31/06.
    Metformin 500 mg twice daily
HCTZ 12.5 mg every other day for BP
    Enalapril 20 mg 1 daily (ace-inhibitor)
Lower carb dieter (approx. 75 total carbs/day, more on weekends), taking chromium, multivitamin and fish oil tablets

    Initial A1C 8/06: 9.6
    11/06: 6.2.
    03/07: 5.3
    06/07: 5.4
    10/07: 5.3
05/08: 6.2 (after dealing with shingles & bronchiti)
    2/09: 5.5
    5/10: 5.8 (home test)

    Hi, jtl.

The pain *may* go away after your #s have been under control *for a while.* Unfortunately, it's not the blood sugar levels themselves that cause the pain, so lowering them doesn't make the pain go away immediately. If it's something diabetes related, the pain is from the damage done to your body while your blood sugar was high.

If that's the case, once you get your blood sugars under contol for a while, then whatever damage has been done can begin to heal, if possible.

As for high #s, fasting of 110 is pretty good - some people get lower, but I'd be happy with 110. 160 is a *bit* high for 2 hours after eating - most people shoot for 140 (which is the # where it's believed damage begins occuring.)

I had some really minor pains in my legs (not just the hip) last October. I had a bad fall in June (a hip bone bruise). I used it as an excuse to get off the exercise wagon. The endocrinologist suggested I try walking at least 4 miles a week. I was stubborn and blew it off a while. Eventually I started walking again, I still haven't hit the 4 miles a week. The pain is less when I walk and it definately returns if I skip a week.

I don't know the answer, but I'm in pain all the time too. I was just diagnosed and am taking meds. I'm about 120 fasting and 140 after a meal. I had the bad headaches for a few weeks, and now my right leg hurts so badly that's the reason I logged on. To look for answers. I'll keep an eye on here to see too. Thanks for asking!

here is the strange sh it that happened to me.

after I was dx. I got wicked wicked wicked sick, vomitting, headaches diarrheah, etc... for two weeks. my doctors couldn't figure it out, stool samples, blood work, urine tests, all that, and I was always fine. when I look back at it now, I would say, it was my plummetting numbers that were making me sick. the less I ate, the more sick, the less I ate, blah, blah blah.

the other wierd thing was after a couple months of having some glucose control, I started getting twitching in my legs and numbness and pain in my right foot. the twitching I think was caused by a lack of nutrients as I was loosing about 3 lbs a week. again, blood work, urine, EMG etc.. all was normal.

about 3 months later after increasing food and vitamins/mineral supplements - no more twitching.

I now have no more numbness, pain, tingling in my foot. I think that took months of good glucose control.

    thats my story.
    good MBS.

lo carb under 50g a day and excersize
    calorie restriction
    quinipril- 10 mg a day
    metformin ER 500 a day
    80 mg varapimil 3 x a day

my lipid profile is finally amazing.

    I LOVE YOU!

Your numbers right now are pretty good, certainly a fasting of 110 is good, I aim to be at/below 110 for fasting. You 2 hour level is a slightly higher than most of us aim for (140). That said, how long have your numbers been at these levels, have they come down from much higher numbers?

Are you getting the headaches all the time or after eating? Do you think the headaches could be related to your leg pain and caused by stress?

Your numbers are good too, 120 is ever so slightly above the target many of us aim for of 110, 140 after a meal (2 hours after first bite) is good. Again, how long have your numbers been at this level are you coming down after much higher numbers?

Metformin 500mg twice daily, Enap 5mg

Hi jtl! Diabetic neuropathies are a family of nerve disorders caused by diabetes. People with diabetes can, over time, develop nerve damage throughout the body. Some people with nerve damage have no symptoms. Others may have symptoms such as pain, tingling, or numbness—loss of feeling—in the hands, arms, feet, and legs. Nerve problems can occur in every organ system, including the digestive tract, heart, and others.

About 60 to 70 percent of people with diabetes have some form of neuropathy. People with diabetes can develop nerve problems at any time, but risk rises with age and longer duration of diabetes. The highest rates of neuropathy are among people who have had diabetes for many years. Diabetic neuropathies also appear to be more common in people who have problems controlling their blood glucose, as well as those with high levels of blood fat and blood pressure and those who are overweight.

Many people will try to tell you what you can’t eat with diabetes.
    Most will be well-meaning.
Rather than compounding the problem by telling you what you should
eat, I’d recommend a simpler method, eat by your meter.
