Not all carbs are created equal.

But omg I want hummus and homemade pita chips now. Olive oil and garlic and chickpeas. Oh My.

I'm off to Safeway.

Seriously... chickpeas(and other low GI foods) are a diabetics best friend.

DUDE. Seriously, I FREAKIN LOVE hummus, and roasted chickpeas. I am a Type 1 without insulin, here, okay? I CANNOT EAT 1/2 cup of chickpeas without spiking. YMMV.

PS I hate you for being able to go buy them even!!! (I am kidding of course, but it is frustrating to miss my BEANS).

Hang in there, Linda. Soon for the price of a couple of daily pricks (ok, four of them) you too will be able to enjoy a reasonable serving of your favorite carb! I cannot wait to have felafel again! (making it from scratch is way too much trouble, bring on the felafel mix!)

As long as that was not a carby salad, I would have no trouble going ahead with the 10 g carb dessert right away.

Regarding chic peas / garbanzo beans-- they are one of the least blood glucose raising legumes for me.

11 mmol is 200 in American (mg/dl). That's very poor control. Sorry - but if I had your numbers I'd be really worried. Also, you are averaging 168 (see your A1c)... which put crudely, means that more than half the time you BG levels are high enough to be doing damage and that your diabetes is very probably progressing. What you chose to eat for yourself is your business, but you are strongly advocating your diet to everyone here which makes it our business too, and I suggest that your diet is not working.

A little hummus on a slice or two of cucumber doesn't seem to bother me; perhaps it's the oil content. Chickpeas themselves, however, I find it best to avoid--one of the few 150+ readings I've ever had followed a salad into which Mrs. ShottleBop had mixed an entire (small) can of chickpeas, instead of half of a can. For me, the nonstarchy veggies are a much safer nosh.
