Fruits that don't spike you like crazy

What fruits have people found they could eat that don't cause the BS levels to go crazy?

Fruits that don't spike me too high (with insulin) include...

apples and sometimes blueberries

yep. That's it. The rest spike my bg levels faster than my insulin works.

We're all different, so the best way to determine which fruits work for you is to try a serving, test 2 hrs after first bite and see how your blood sugar responds.

I find I can eat blueberries, strawberries, cherries in small amounts without a lot of problem, as well as cantaloupe, and some apples. Pineapple sends me quite high, as do grapes.

I think the mistake we often make is in thinking we can eat the fruit in the same quantities as we did prior to diagnosis...i've found no fruit that I can eat with abandon, like I did before diagnosis.

Generally, hubby and I will half an apple or banana.

Avoid juices unless you're low and trying to raise your blood sugar, as they are full of sugar.

Blueberries, but I had to learn to like them. Now they are a treat that I keep in the freezer all the time.

Has anyone tried pepino melon? It tastes like it is very low carb, but I have not looked it up. It is pretty bland, but maybe someone else knows how to make it more enjoyable. (I saved seeds fromt he one I tried this week.)

Test for yourself to be sure....

For me, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, all the berries really... avocado is tremendous.... cherries....

Apples, bananans, canteloupe, honeydew all start pushing the limits.... but I'll still indulge now and again...

Pineapples, oranges were really bad for me a year ago. I'll probably retest them again soon after significant weight loss..

At any rate, you might want to eat your fruits with cheese or something that has fat because it tends to slow the absorbtion and peak of the spike. Even better than cheese is full fat whipping cream with a bit of vanilla extract added and splenda to taste... mmmmm... perfect summer treat.

Raspberries and Blueberries, preferably together, unfortunately in small quantities - and wedged in clotted cream. Just writing this making smile in anticipated blissful contentment.

Before you write grapes off for yourself... these comments were for THESE people's bodies, not YOURS. If you are going severely low carb, bye bye any fruit is probably your answer. But if you are looking to find the fruits that don't spike you as much or spike you to a degree you deem acceptable, there is only one way to find the answer. It involves you, a controlled portion of the fruit in question, and your tester before and 2 hours after. Maybe a few times.

You can take other people's findings as fruit for thought. But fruit threads often show what spikes one person, may barely touch another. Go forth and try those grapes!

I agree with Subby! You need to just test what works on your body. For instance, I am fine with apples as long as I bolus, but I can't eat bananas without spiking too high even with a bolus.
Someone else here said the opposite. It's so personal.
Plus, IN MY OPINION, if you're going to allow yourself the occasional treat, fruit is probably a much healthier way to go than something processed or unnatural. Enjoy life and be healthy. There has to be a balance.

I'm trying to eat fruits (apples mostly) and vegetables early in the day, and just before I exercise. I'm hoping this will lower any spikes in bgs.
