| | | Good Numbers This Morning I'm continuing to figure things out-- at least what seems to work for me.
Last night my 2-hr post meal BG was 116. Not bad, but I took an extra 1/2 pill (250g metformin) anyway.
This morning my fasting BG was 77. Since this was lower than usual (I'm typically around 90 to 100), I decided to slurge and go just a bit more on carbs for breakfast than I usually do.
I had a boiled egg, some cheese, 2 "pigs in a blanket", and about a cup and half of milk. Total was about 35 to 40 carbs.
Two hrs post meal I'm at 116. An increase of 50% but I'm not "spiked".
The key for me seems to be going low-carb at breakfast. This has tended to keep me manageable all day unless I go overboard with lunch-- which I seldom do (lunch is typically less than 30-40 carbs). If my morning fasting number is real good, I can get away with a little more at breakfast.

One suggestion--and only a suggestion: your meds include a sulfonylurea drug (the Glip), which works by stimulating your beta cells to produce more insulin. There is some concern that, by doing so, sulfonylureas can overwork them to the point where they fail. There could be some benefit to working to manage your BGs through diet to the point where the Glip is no longer necessary. You might consider talking to your doctor about it.

| | | Very nice. People seem to have the most difficulty with breakfast, but those are pretty good numbers. Keep on experimenting and see what's happening. Stick to it and you'll find a personalized menu that works great for you. And then you'll start feeling like a champ physically.
Pigs in a blanket.. is that a pancake wrapped around a sausage?

| | | Can I ask why you take extra metformin after a meal? Metformin is not like glip or insulin - it does not have an immediate affect on blood glucose levels. Its primary function is to lower the amount of glucose dumped by your liver, not to bring your present glucose levels down. It also tends to have a cumulative effect, which is why some people need to take it for a few weeks before they really notice a difference.
