| | | I suspect I have the H1N1 virus, now what? Chills, fever, aches, dry cough. It's been about 12 hours since I came down with the symptoms. They progressed really rapidly. Called Telehealth and they said go see your doc. I call the clinic and they said we can't do anything go to hospital. My main concern is that I kind of have this heartburn. Especially after I cough. My son (who has started to be sick the day before) says he kind of has the same thing, the burning a bit. I am worried.
I wanted to get the flu shot but when I went to get it... I suspected by then I was coming down with the symptoms.
It's one thing to change your diet and lifestye... I know it's hard to do, it's frustrating... but when it come to viruses like this H1N1 that's when I REALLY hate diabetes. Because I feel I have no chance at all.

Keep an eye on your blood sugars, but expect them to be crazy while you are sick.

| | | That chest pain/ heartburn is a classic flu symptom.
Drink as much fluid as you can, part of my problem was that I got dehydrated and ended up with a sinus infection, after the flu itself was gone.
Other than that, ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and fever, and plenty of rest (HAH -- like you have a choice). Eat carefully for your blood sugar, and just do not get too frustrated, because it will run high.

| | | Went into the hospital emergency room late at night for a nasty tick bite and came out with some medicine and the flu. Been just over a week and returning to "normal". It kicked my butt for a few days but survived, you will too. A few days of crazy blood sugar is least of my worries

| | | Nasty virus This virus is nasty. Felt like being hit by lightning. Fever broke this morning. I am feeling A LOT better although persistent cough. I've never been this sick in my life. First 'low' reading today of 6.6 (120 for you guys?). Wow! I was relieved there wasn't a 1 before the 6 this time.
Get the flu shot asap.
Take care! |

| | | Update Developped chest infection and sinus infection right after the flu. You've got to love being a diabetic! Your life is never boring. Always something happening.
Doing very well now and going back to work Monday. At last! Yesterday was the first day in the last two weeks that I felt like my old self. It was about time!
Here is to good health! |

| | Carrie, just so you know ... I too had sinusitis and DO NOT think it is b/c I have D. This flu simply has a higher complication rate than many other strains ... that, and the antibiotic-resistant strains sneaking around into all cavities, make this a particularly bad year.
Good luck, and hope your antibiotics kick the infection in the teeth! Took me FOUR weeks (still got some sinus crud but receding on Doxycycline).
