Angry Holy Scary Number!!***!!

For a couple of months now my numbers have been in the 70s & 80s, yahoo. Low carb, yada, yada, yada. Anyway, 2 hours after my morning 1 oz of cheese (no changes in type of cheese) my reading is 206!???!!!

What the heck is happening to me (I did a second test out of disbelief)??????

(There have been no changes to my det or exercize and I don't feel unwell in any way).

It may be that you are getting sick, and your blood sugar reflects it before you start having noticeable symptoms.

Keep a close check on your blood sugars, and if the trend continues, get in touch with your doctor.

Have you dropped back down at all since then?

That's just plain spooky.

I think Linda's onto something . . . you may be fighting off a bug that hasn't made its presence fully known otherwise. Will keep you lifted . . . you don't need any more cr-ap to complicate matters! (((Georgia)))

(it's sure good to have you back!)

Are you using a new tub of strips? Could your strips have been exposed to heat/cold/moisture and not be accurate. Do you have a new batch you could open and try and see if you get the same results?

Diabetes is progressive, and you could have had a liver dump. That happens to me every morning. I have to bolus in the morning with my coffee. If I don't I can go from an 89 reading to a 260 reading in just 2-hours........With me it depends on what I ate the night before also. If I had more than 15g of carb with dinner I dump worse in the morning...it is all very confusing and personally I am tired of it and going to see what the doc can do about it.

I find the day before I get sick my numbers tend to rise. Also I spike when I exercise or when I don't get enough food. I never feel like eating when I get up and I have to force myself otherwise I will see a significant bg spike. You may want to change what you are eating. Today I had a bowl of stir fryed shiratake noodles with vegetables and was 104, 1 hour later.

I think many IDDs will aggree that our basal needs can fluctuate. I have unusually high numbers once in awhile myself that typically last most of the day. I do have lows too but rarely.

Your A1C is fantastic so you can't be having too many highs huh? You pump? If you have highs can you adjust how much you pump during the day? I am totally ignorant to the pump so if this is a stupid question forgive me.

How are things now?

I find that I can now forecast when I'm about to get a cold as about 2-3 days before the cold symptoms hit me I find my numbers run high. When the cold actually arrives my numbers return to normal levels.

As you mention no change in diet/excercise, have you changed shampoo, did you use perfume, it could be a contaminent on your hands. Last week end we went to a fancy dress party and I used red food coloring as fake blood, forgot to test beforehand and afterwards I could not get a proper reading, it was very hard to get food coloring off my hands.

Dr. Bernstein, who's been living with Type 1 for four decades, boluses in the morning to keep his BG from rising rapidly.
