When can you consider yourself to be in control with your Bg's?

Is it when your meter tests show that your numbers are consistently in the range considered controlled or is it when you get that first A1c that shows you have achieved control?

I think if I go by my meter then my bg's have been in control since about June. If I go by the first A1c test that actually shows control then that would be in September. Which one should I look at when it comes to having achieved control?

Technically it is the HbA1c but practically the meter is a better guide. Your earlier HbA1c results were skewed because although you had good control you were still carrying around baggage from when you were getting there. That's why I think soon after diagnosis the meter gives a more current indication.

Consensus group suggested ?remission? not ?cure? as accurate term in diabetes

Yeah, I have a problem with that sort of statement. I don't see how you can be in remission unless the disease ceases to have any impact for a period of time. Living on a diet of lettuce leaves and drugs can achieve an HbA1c below 6.5% but I don't see that as remission (slightly extreme example I know but...) For me this is beginning to border on denial.

At what point can a rodeo rider be said to be in "control" of the bucking bronco s/he's sitting astride?

You are expressing my mood today. Something is wrong from this morning's reading to my pre-lunch (119??? I would have waited to eat, I sat down with a full plate (17 carbs total, lol) and only then stuck myself. But, this is getting RIDICULOUS.
