Hi Ramon - I had read from one of the posters last week that by taking vinegar before bed - helped with his BS in the morning. So I and GrannyShanny had decided to try it as well.
I bought AppleCider Vinegar (not sure which one Granny is using) and I take 2 Tbspn at night with a glass of water - and yes I have seen great improvements in my BS in the morning! I don't take it at any other times but - I did do a search on the web - and it does mention that it aides in digestion of meals as well as a host of other benefical stuff Hope this helps with your question - otherwise GRANNY can better explain it to you.

I can't do any better than Donna already has . . . I take the same dose she takes & I mix it with water like she does. And since I'm already drinking it, I take my bedtime met dose, and also my two spoonfuls of whole flaxseed.

That's the size of it, Ramon . . . two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar mixed with water.

Thanks, I need all the help I can get. Went to bed last night with a BG of 111 and woke up with a 135. Even though these #'s are great compared to what I use to have. Need to fine tune a little.

Ramon, if I know that I might be bad at dinner and eat a piece of bread or just overeat a little, I drink two table spoons of vinegar in a small glass of water, then I chase it with two glasses of water, and my numbers stay smooth. however, as a good poster pointed out, I can drink a glass of wine with that dinner and achieve the same thing. I have tried both and they both work the same.

When I was first diagnosed, and was ruling out food, my numbers were still pretty high because I was discovering what I could and couldn't eat....If I checked at anytime and my numbers were high, I did the vinegar and my numbers instantly dropped.

Then I read in a magazine that if you drink two tablespoons of vinegar in water before every meal, that you will lose a pound a week from that alone. Blah.....who could take that!!!!! I would rather work out at the gym.

    Good luck!

How do you tolerate the taste? It gags me and makes my nose burn! Any tips on making it more palatable?

In the early stages, I experimented a bit with things such as bitter melon, apple cider vinegar, garlic pills, cinnamon, etc.

I didn't isolate to see what was helping my numbers - and my numbers were in the process of dropping anyway through low carb and just general control. But I can say none if it hurt me and I wouldn't be all that surprised if they aided it in someway.

When I was doing the apple cider vinegar, I despised the taste so much that I just bit the bullet and did a shot of it. Burned worse than whiskey. But I was at least done with it.

Just wondering here, but wouldn't you get the same result if you ate a small salad with oil and vinegar?....or ate some cooked kale with vinegar sprinkled over it? I've sliced up some cucumbers, and put them on a plate and covered them with a 50-50 mixture of vinegar and water. I've heard some smokers call these cucumbers phlegm busters, since it helps clear the throat. The cucumbers can be kept in the refrigerator in a tupperware container with enough vinegar/water solution to keep them floating in it. Just shake it all up when you want to eat some before bed.

Eating any of the above would give you the vinegar, plus it would be more palatable. It would also add to your carb intake a bit, so that might be a concern.

I just add two tablespoons to 4 ounces of water, down it without breathing, then chase it with 4 more ounces of water.....not the most pleasant, but I've had worse. The salad with oil and vinegar doesn't work for me as well as the vinegar water.

My fasting numbers are usually my worst of the day, so I've been trying the apple cider vinegar thing for the past couple weeks. I put two tablespoons in a few ounces of water, down it, and then chase it down with a big glass of water. I've also started taking 500mg of Metformin before bed, in hopes of lowering my numbers. Small sample size, but it doesn't seem to have done any harm. I'm still in the 130 to 160 range most mornings, but that's down from 180 to 200-something. I've also been watching my carbs, eating less in general, and not eating after 7:00. Hard to know exactly what's helping and what's not.
