I got gastro, I kept taking met but it basically didn't seem to be working at all, until I got over the tummy bug about 5 days later. It might have been contributing or prolonging the problem. Next time I will be stopping until I feel better.

Met does upset my stomach at times, more specifically causes intestinal bloating and occasionally cramps, especially if I don't have a little carbs with the tablet. Taking some acidiphilus (Yakult, or Inner health plus) for a few days in a row really seemed to help my sytem now cope far better, and I now know what to go back to if bloating occurs again.

Hmm... most of us definitely have stomach issues when we first start metformin, or when we up the dosage. If I were you, I'd not want to quit taking it, though, as this can wreak havoc on your bg.

How long have you been taking the 2000 mg? Did you have side effect when you first started the 1000 mg?

Remember too that not everything that we go through is related to D or our D medicines. Not saying it's not likely, but be careful not to rule out other causes too.

I would call the doctor and see what they want you to do before just stopping it all together. Mine told me when I increased the dosage to drop back down if I had bad side effects.

I hope you feel better!

I never had any symptoms from met. And I also digest things like sugar alcohols and Low-GI/high-fiber stuff, that others cannot! I am a gastrointestinal magician, a talent I would rather not have ...

Have you tried restricting carbs to see if it decreases your side effects? I have read here that it might help, if you are willing ... then you could perhaps gradually step back up on them.
