    Red face Marijuana and BGL's

My doctor has suggested that I try marijuana to help relieve my back pain, and she will give me a medical marijuana card should I decide I want to try the drug.

There's not much information that I can find dealing with how pot affects blood sugar levels. Does anyone have some pointers to any information on the subject?

FWIW, I tried a little marijuana and it helped my back pain far quicker and to a greater degree than the pain meds I've been taking.

    Thanks,

    Shel

    Thumbs down Do some research

I urge you to get a new Doctor.
Weed has ruined a lot of lives, and nearly ruined mine.
It has a HIGH potential for abuse. Please reconsider.

As for it's effect on blood sugar, I have no idea.....
I didn't kill him. I just shot him in the head. Him dyin' was between him and the Lord.

It's the effect on blood sugar that I'm interested in, not a lecture on the evils of marijuana. I'm 65yo and not concerned about marijuana ruining my life ... I am, however, concerned about alleviating my back pain which is sometimes quite debilitating. It seems that the back pain will do more to ruin my life than relieving the pain in the privacy of my own home.

BTW, how might marijuana ruin my life? How did it almost ruin yours?

    Thanks for your concern

    Shel

It will be an interesting experiment Shel. The only downside I can think of is a possible case of the munchies.

    Shel,

I don't believe marijuana has a direct correlation to high bgs. It is the binge eating that the drug might cause that would raise bgs.

Use your meter a little more often to see if you notice a rise in your bg in the hours after smoking.

I hope you can get continued relief from your pain.

    No lecture intended.
You may be one of the people who can smoke marijuana responsibly. I, and many others are not. Carry on.

I have a relative that uses marijuana to help her with nausea from her diabetes as well as the nerve pain, and it really helps her. As far as her blood sugars, it doesn't seem to have any more effect than her eating habits.

I would say keep watching it, but it shouldn't have any more of an effect than smoking.

I'm not a big fan, but if it works for you, go for it.

Shel_B I truly hope it helps with your back pain because the effects of smoking are well documented and can cause other serious things to happen. I'm an ex-smoker and can't think of anything worse for you than smoking. YMMV Rich

I don't believe it affects BS whatsoever (unless you count munchies, but that's the food, not the weed).... I say more power to you and good on your doctor for recognizing marijuana as a more natural, safer, treatment for your back pain.

It absolutley has a big influence on BG. Therefore the cravings/munchies. If you use it and your BG is very low it can crash. It happened to me. I was on a vegetarian diet with very low carbs. After smoking I set in a chair and the other people went to the kitchen. My husband came back to find me unresponsive. Be very cautious if you do use it with low BG.

That was in another life by the way, we no longer use any stuff like that. Thanks to God for drawing us away from it.

It's like booze, it varies from person to person. Lay some ground rules for yourself, and stick to them.

BTW, I don't smoke weed, or smoke anything in fact, but I am a staunch supporter of decriminalization and legalization of it.

I wish they'd ban liquor. It ruins more lives then anything on the planet, cept maybe for gambling, or cocaine/meth.

    And I drink...
