    Arrow Herbal supplements that work

I wanted to know the herbal supplements that work in addition to the prescription medication to control the spike in BS especially after the meals. I have Janumet 50.500 twice a day and it does not seem to work. I have no side effects but it does not seem to control the BS. i was on actoplus met earlier and it did a better job (but cold feet and weight gain). Any suggestions that are working for someone?

    Please advise.

    Age 42
A1C 7 and increasing as the numbers are bad (6 on Actoplus met)
    hibiscus tea for blood pressure

I am a vegetarian (no eggs, dairy OK) and i take xtendlife Total Balance Premium for Men. Breakfast is smoothie with strawberries and jay robb protein, mid morning apple, lunch brown rice, lentils, veggies, yogurt..green tea (2 times) hibiscus tea (2 times) celery/carrot juice, dinner - whole wheat tortilla wth veggies!. I am currently on Janumet 50/500 (2 doses). After starting on the Multivitamin i notice the after meals spike is very high. Also i take fish oil. Will that contribute to high numbers in the morning?

    Thanks

    Saish.

    chinese medicine

I have found a really awesome chinese medicine doctor and she is great. she has set me up with some different herbs that have helped me control my bg a lot better.
however I think that chinese medicine and acupuncture doctors are like car mechanics in that there are good ones and bad ones. it might take a little bit to find a good one.

My diabetes support group meets once a month and I remember a gent named Walter who only believed in Eastern medicine and thought pharmaceutical companies were all evil etc...Well we always got free A1c checks and his was always way above everyone else in the group like 9.9. Long story short, I finally convinced him to see an MD and get a pill- he did and soon was very happy and is on the road to better health and recovery. I strongly believe in blending Eastern/Western medicines. Don't be a pinhead!

You may find it necessary to restrict carbs more than you have if you want to control your BGs adequately.

I take Insinase and MetaGlycemX every day. I've been doing very low carb for about 5 months, and taking the supplements for the past month. Since I've been on them my 30 average has gone from 118 to 106, with no other changes in diet or exercise.

Diabetes is a progressive disease and at this point there is no cure. The disease is not cookie-cutter. Different medicines and different foods affect each of us differently including the progression. After 10 years, I'm just now beginning to realize the effects. It is because my beta cells are are burning out. I now have to change my routines, medicines, food consumption to deal with my disease on a different level. Stuffing Chinese herbs will not reverse or change this fact. For me, they would only stress my digestion system more than it is.

Few, if any 'eastern medicines' or 'natural supplements' have shown any ability to do more than lighten your wallet. Count carbs, test your blood sugar and let the doc know that what you are taking now isn't working.

No doubt this is very true. I don't recommend buying their tooth paste, remember the anti-freeze ingredients, the babies milk or the dry wall in Florida, lead paint on kids toys?

I do take supps and they do work. My FBG when Dx was 350 after eating nothing but eggs and slim jims for a week. I went on MET for 3 weeks and stopped taking it.

In a matter of 6 months I went from FBG of 350 to an A1C of 4.8, taking nothing but Supps and avoiding refined carbs.

So lets not be to hasty in saying that all supps don't work, some do.

There isn't one supp that will do it all for you, you have to determine what your problem is and then decide what supp would best help you for that problem.

I wouldn't touch anything that doesn't come out of a legitimate pharmacy in my own country and bound by all the FDA regulations. I think too many people are mesmerized by all the television ads, persuading them to try this supplement and that. Why take it if your body doesn't need it? The damage done by vitamin toxicity is greater than the damage done by vitamin insufficiency.

Not only that, but don't you think if they worked the MD's would be bottling the stuff and selling it at the front desk in their offices.

Plus, anyone had surgery lately. The FIRST thing the doctors have you do is get off all the supplements weeks ahead of time. Too many problems.

MCS, I too take supplements, and tend to believe that they have been hepful since my A1C has dropped from 7.0 to 5.6 during last one year I have been taking them (although I have tried to exercise also. I can't tell where the benefit came from... Low carbing : could not do.)

How about possible harm from the supps on kidneys (or elsewhere)? Are you not worried, and how? I am worried, and hesitant on carrying on.

Along with Metformin 1000 mg/day and aspirin, I have been taking Fish oil, CoQ10, and these in not small dosages. Also, vit B12. Also, occacionally, chromium picolinate, selenium, zinc,
magnesium... I am considering going into vit D3 in large dosages...

Recently I have been diagnosed with fatty liver, for the first time. After 16 yrs of diabetes T2. I am a 59 yrs old man, BMI 25.0 .

I wonder if so many supplements would have anything to do with my fatty liver...

Do you know any source that says taking the supps is safe??

(Although it makes my story longer I have to add that I have stopped taking statins during that same period, after usage of 10+ years, as a result of which my HDL cholestrol has significantly risen, LDL has risen, triglycerides has fallen...)

Thanks for reading and commenting everybody.
