| | | can't excercise now what ? Spring has finally sprung in our lovely corner of the world and I can't avoid it any longer. Last night I had chest pains when out walking very slowly with my 3 yr old. So I made an appointment with my cardiologist and have a stress test booked for next week. Chances are this will be angiogram number 4 and if I am lucky angioplasty number 3 otherwise I will be looking at bypass. And I just turned 46. Either way it will be a while before I can excercise again.(not that I have been doing much)
I have been losing weight slowly over the last 6 weeks since my diagnoses and am down from 215 to 202. My bs are sitting right around the 7.5 mark
Now what happens when I can't excercise for the next 3 or 4 months.
Sorry for the whine in my voice but this sucks.
Steve

| | | Steve,
I didn't detect any whine in your post. I picked up very understandable frustration.
Firstly, let's hope your tests go better than expected. Secondly, I think you should talk with your doctor about the situation.
With that out of the way, I suspect that if you are out of action for a little while you will just have to rely on your medication and diet to keep some level of control over your diabetes. I suggest doing the best you can until you can do better. Try to keep rigidly to your eating plan and, if necessary, up your medication some to compensate for not being able to exercise. Having bs levels that are too high isn't good for you, but in the short-term should not cause too much damage. Once you recover from whatever becomes necessary regarding your heart, then you can focus on getting you diabetes under better control.
Whatever you do, try not to stress over it. Stress is not good for your heart or your diabetes.
Good luck and Keep us posted,
Travis |

| | | Hi Steve
I'm sorry to hear your news, I hope that it isn't as bad as you think it might be.
About exercise - I'm agoraphobic, and rarely leave my house. I was diagnosed last June - I'm type 2 - and since then I've done very little exercise, other than walking around the house, with the occasional walk outside. But, by keeping an eye on my diet and being on meds, I've got my numbers down. My last A1c was 6. I'm also losing weight. It's a very slow process tho, and I find it frustrating because I want to lose weight quicker than I am - but every time I get weighed, I've lost another pound or two.
What I'm trying to say is, that although exercise is important for all of us, you can still control your diabetes without it.
Good luck with your test results.

| | Sorry to hear of your Chest Pains, I'm sure that must be kind of scary. Hopefullly, it will be nothing to worry about.
I'm actually surprised that you can't exercise at all. If I were you, I would ask my doctor about that. Exercise is good for your heart. Perhaps I would see if I could do some mild exercises, see what your dr. suggests. It's good to keep active physically, as you know.
If not, like others mentioned, keep a tighter grip on your meal plan, get enough rest, don't stress (like Travis mentioned), test even more frequently, and do everything possible to stay healthy.
Take care of yourself

| | | Can't excercise now what? Is there any way you can get to water arobics - you don't have to do a lot and it is much easier in the water - if you can just get in the water and keep something moving - it is better than not doing anything.
But I know it is scary - try to do one thing and you feel it defeats something else.
Blessings to you. |

| | | I am now scheduled for an angiogram on May 12 so hopefully they can once again fix the heart so I can get back to routine excercise.
Thanks for all the encouragement.
