    Lisinopril/HCTZ 20-12.5

Dr called yesterday and changed by high blood pressure medicine. He gave me Lisinopril 10mg samples on Thursday last week and the nurse said he would rather I take Lisinopril/HCTZ 20-12.5.

Anyone else on this and how is it when you first start it?

Hi! I was on Lisinopril for awhile but was changed because it caused me to cough constantly. I also used to take HCTZ too. I was taken off that too and my hair grew back.

YMMV with taking new meds. these meds did work for me I just didn't handle the side effects well. Good luck!
Please bare with me... I am struggling over here.

    Hello Shelly,
I also take Lisinopril, only 10mg. No probems yet. It is an ACE Inhibitor and can be use for heart problems, blood pressure, and to protect kidneys of dibetics. I have had no problems with it as yet. It is also listed on the Walmart $4 monthly - 90 supply for $10 list. A low cost med. Later, Larry

No Meds, just diet - so far!

That's exactly what I have been taking for the past couple of months and have not had any side effects and my BP has been fantastic.

Keep an eye on your potassium levels ... ACE inhibitors can raise potassium levels. Next thing you know, the MD will take you off the bananas.

Let me wrap my head around this. He gave you 10mg samples of Lisinopril last Thursday...and then doubled your dose over the phone, without any blood pressure tests? I fail to see his logic in this case. Prescription medicine, in my opinion, should be titrated according to explicit criteria, not some second-guess a few days down the road. Did you ask him why he was doubling your dose?

I was diagnosed with hypertension as well, along with diabetes last July. The doctor in the hospital prescribed Lisinopril 20mg along with 30mg of Lipitor and a basal of Lantus insulin. My Lantus was titrated up from 15 units to 25 units over a 2 month period and at 3 months my Lisinopril titrated down to 10mg. All this with empirical evidence from lab blood tests, blood pressure checks at each visit, and a long list of BG tests from my meter.

Took Lisinopril for a month from the cardio that discharged me @ ER and nothing until I caught a vicious cold that manifestes into a bad cough that lasted 2 weeks, lost my voice and chest/head started to hurt. My doctor gave me 25 mg of Cozaar and so far so good...

When the nurse called yesterday, she said the dr wanted me on the Lisinopril/HCTZ 20-12.5. All I can think of was that he was reviewing all my tests or maybe the nurse gave me the wrong sample at my appt.

We'll see how it goes. My BP last night was 142/86 and this morning it was 139/82.

You're right at borderline normal. With just a good walk every day, and the 20mg of Lisinopril, within a few months you should be able to drop back down to 10mg of Lisinopril.

I'm on 10mg of Lisinopril and took my blood pressure this morning at the Raley's pharmacy. 117/70, heart rate 77. And I'm old and 75 pounds overweight.

Wow, Bountyman you're BP is really good.

I've started my workout routine again, at least 3 nights at the gym. I don't do so much I'm dripping sweat (yuk). I do mostly to keep fit and keep my bones strong. Especially here in Erie in the freezing winter it's hard to get outside and walk. Hopefully once everything seems to get under control I can cut back on a lot of the medicine.

As for old, my daughter thinks I'm ancient. She has the "oldest mom" in her class. We kid her that the day she graduates we're moving in the retirement home. We call ourselves the OPs (Old People).
