| | | try lantus/glargin You need to ry lantus. it's a 24hr insulin that gives great results and great control. The best is that you only have to inject once a day. I am t2 as well and was frustrated by the lack of control that orals gave. this has been a great find. i love it and it makes me feel in control and that what i do actually matters. ask your specialist.. it may work for you. |

| | | Diabetic specialist waiting The tests you take shows your blood sugar levels and what it has been for the past 3 months - it also shows your cholesterol numbers, and how your body is reacting in several areas. It does not mean anything has gone wrong - he just wants to make sure you have the amount of medicine you need. |

| | | diabetic specialist waiting for If I don't hear from my reports within a week - I will call.
Just give the doctor a call and ask if they have the results of your tests, you should not have to wait until July to find out what your numbers are. I'm sure if they were high or something just not right, they would have called you by now, but I always want to know the figures so I ask.
A lot of doctors don't reveal the numbers to their patients - I run into that all the time - but it is good to always ask - write it down so you will remember it for the next visit - the more you find out about this problem the more peace of mind you will have.
I'll give you a good example. When I was first diagnosed - I had a very hard time getting the numbers from the doctor - The nurse told me my diabetes was out of control (the BS number was 136) - I ask the nurse what the normal numbers were - she said I don't know - I ask her if she was not the nurse and she said yes - I said how can you tell me I am out of control if you don't know what they should be. Now if I had left it there I would have really been concerned - I forced a visit to the doctor - his ONLY insructions were - don't eat any more sweets.
Needless to say I changed doctors - however in the meantime - I educated myself with everything I could read and I learned quite a bit and I have much more peace of mind. If they don't explain or tell you what is going on - force it or change doctors. |

| | | I have been a diabetic for years.
I have "always" had every test copied and given to me. Ask for them if you have to....you paid for them.
I can open my file drawer and put my hands right on ever A1C and Lipids + all my testing in one instant!
KNOW YOUR NUMBERS.
Get it on your chart that you want a copy of everything!!

| | | diabetic specialist waiting for Just in case your doctor does not give you the numbers - here is something to go by so you can ask.
Your Blood sugar on waking (fasting) should be 80 - 120
Before Meals should be 80 - 120
2 hours after meals should be 180 or less
at bedtime - 100-140
Your A1c should be less than 7
When they run your bood sugar test, they usually get these other numbers also.
Your cholesterol should be 200 or lower
HDL (happy cholesterol-good) 45 or higher
LDL (louzy cholesterol-bad) should be 100 or lower
Triglycerides - should be 200 or lower
These numbers will help you know if you are in control or not.

| | | useing a binder I have a binder with a sheet of my medical history which I copy for a new doctor, it includes all medications.
The next section is lab results. I insist that all lab results be mailed or faxed to me on the ORIGINAL sheets from the labs. these can be used when you go to the hospital ER or other doctors.
The next section is "CURRENT SYMPTOMS" I use a sheet of paper or write on the computer and print it out, any symptoms I am dealing with at the time. Cold, Extreme indigestion, headaches ect can be addressed on the current symptoms sheets. This sheet is given to the doctors at each appt.
The third section is BG readings I have sheets I drew up on my computer that includes foods eatten at each meal - Blood Glucose readings, insulin usage and comments on illness, depression, activities ects, I copy these sheets and give them to my endo.
You do have the right by law to recieve copies of all test results. Insist on it
The lab will show your results and the a "range" with a set of numbers, those numbers are the "normal" for that specific test, that way YOU will always know where you stand. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
