How much is too much?

Im really new at this no carb, no sugar diet and I have a few questions.
How much is a lot? is 15g of carbs a lot? Is 10g of sugar a lot? I try really hard to eat a little sugar and carbs as I can, but sometimes I cant help it and would like to minimize the effect if I do eat some. This is my first week switching to this diet style and today I ate my first no carb breakfast (according to the pacakges) Hopefully Ill feel OK!

Any information is appericated, Thanks!

John

what did you eat that was NO Carbs?

I tried zero carbs but didn't feel all that great. I tried to add SOME carbs
to my breakfast and was much more successful.

I can't imagine what comes in a package and is zero carbs...what was it you ate? and what happened?

You need to get to a dietician , they can help set up an achievable diet regime for you. It was recommended for me (46 yrs, 6' 215lbs)(I am now down to 185 lbs)that I have between 45 and 60 carbs for breakfast, 60 to 90 carbs for lunch and supper and 15 to 30 carbs for snack before bed. Daily carb count 180 to 240. I found this was both easier and harder than I expected. If I really watched it I could easily stay at or below my recommended rate. If I cheated it went way over.

I agree with Steve - see a dietician a.s.a.p. However, if you are unable to get to one, for whatever reason - buy a carb-counter book. Then (and this is just my opinion) I'd check out the South Beach Diet websites/mealplans - NOT the beginning weeks, but the 2nd-3rd stage. It advocates healthy high fiber carbs and lean protein. You should be able to adapt their diet with a few added carbs.

This morning I had some EggBeaters (eggs in a carton) and some Tyson pre-cooked bacon and a diet A&W Rootbeer (cotta have my caffine!!!). Honestly it really wasnt all that bad considering its "packaged food", though I know I could do better with better ingredients. I still felt a little hungry a while after eating, but that subsided and I felt "nomal" afterwards. That was at 6:30am, its 12:30 and my errands are done and Im just now feelin hungry again, and my BG is at 85 (usally running at 125-130).
