Agree with the addition of daily exercise. For me LCHF doesn't mean super low carb just keeping to around 100-120g daily. And of course virtually zero refined sugar or grains. Brown rice? You bet in small portion. Whole wheat paste, same. Potatoes ditto. I'm a Foodie as well as fairly advanced hobby chef and refuse to sacrifice quaity of Life for an IMO out of balance food regimen, which as far as my research reveals ultra low like 20-30g carbs daily is out of balance. AND I will not give up coffee, I'm Head Bean and Roast Master of Compass Coffee!

For the record I am not castigating anyone who chooses an ultra low carb sub 50g daily approach. Just for me IF Metformin and closely watching amount and type of carbs and regular vigorous exercise will get my numbers in line that's the route I choose. I will say anyone who is not exercising reguarly but instead strictly relying on diet and/or drugs to manage D is making a huge mistake, so says my meter. (Like my older sister who was DX a number of years ago follows fairly lousy diet, still very over weght, doesn't exercise and just uses insulin to compensate.)

That said only been exploring the World of D since 7/25/12 so more will be revealed. The more I know, the more I know I don't know.

Hey congratulations on your results so far! We are in similar industries ( we make cappuccino powders) and both I and a few others agree- no coffee is NOT in the diet plan!!
Keep up the good work, looks like you are getting control over your personal beast.

Diet-- staying under 50 grams a day of carbs. Not weighing anything mostly rough estimates

Exercise-- 7 days a week but trying to keep it varied. Raquetball, biking, walking with Rocky and now a little lifting

No offense but we are in similar industries only as McDonalds and Chris Ruth's Steakhouse are in similar industries! In my world Coffee is Culinary, instant powders have no place. If you are ever in Vancouver, WA USofA stop by and I'll make you a World Class real cappuccino on the house.

Congratulations Mike! I'm happy for you. It's nice to see another newbie to this disease doing well, really well. It gives me hope.

This also shows me how individual this disease really is. My FBG at diagnosis in May was 247. I'm limiting my carbs to 75 a day, most off less than that. I exercise seven days a week. I figure if I eat seven days a week I better be exercising seven days a week. lol I power walk 60-90 minutes a day, on days I do 60 minutes I use also the resistance machines. I take 2000mg of Metformin a day. My lowest number thus far has been 112. I keep striving for lower numbers, but those little suckers are evading me. lol

**** a 112 nothing to squack at! I know my first sub 120 was first biggy for me. Heck at first sub 200s were progress! Are you on Metformin? While I'm daily power walking too (but only 30min each day) not going ultra low carb rather ~100g day with lots raw veggies and ample proteins and of course zero refined carbs like sugar white flour etc., suspect Met is part of my equation bringing numbers down relatively quickly. First starting night o July 25 DX'd 500x2 daily, two weeks later 500x3 daily, two days ago upped to 500x4 daily. Fortunately I've had virtually zero Met side effects. When out to dinner last night to our favorite India restaurant and yes had a small portion of the safron basmati rice no problem. B4 dinner 125 after 129. Not great but not bad and definitey not a 430 either!

Maybe my numbers coming down relatively fast because I'm one of the seemingly T2 anomalies at Dx barely 10 or so lb over weight and lost those 10 the first two weeks after DX. Of course come to learn that 40lb total lost in a year or less not trying (and then zero excercise, eating ice cream every night etc.) was a symptom of unDXd untreated D.... Fortunately my weight has stabled the last week or so.

Believe me, I'm not scoffing at the 112. It's just amazing tome how differently this disease can be from one person to the next. I have lost 22 pounds so I must be doing something right. lol

Agreed and congrats on the 22lb down! For me it was crazy that rapid weight loss was one of my pre-DX symptoms. At first I thought it was pretty cool loosing the weight without trying, then it got scary - like 10lb in less than a week just isn't normal or safe. Less than a year ago at 215, today and yesterday morning 177.0 from low of of 174.2 last week. Probably 'bout 165lb my ideal so now that my body is actually using what I'm eating instead of it just mostly floating around in my blood I'll have to keep an eye on it not to head back up.
