does anyone get made fun of?

I always get teased for having diabetes by my friends. they are not trying to be mean they are just joking but it gets really obnoxious. sometimes i feel like they only keep me around for the jokes. i tried telling them to stop but one of my other friends is diabetic and doesn't mind the jokes. they always tell me to stop whining. i also tried to get new friends but i work with them too. any thoughts?

my friends give me a hard time all the time..but i know their joking...i am fine with that. I joke about my diabetes too sometimes. ex. i like to use it as a excuse (joking) for things i dont want to do. but they know im joking as well. like hey man i cant do that i have diabetes. But they also know when im not joking about it. so its all good. Look the only way to make them stop joking is too reallly tell them how you feel. But if your friends are like my friends and their probably laugh in your face if you got all emotional with them then roll with the punches. What are they actually saying to offend you?? Its not that bad having diabetes, you should learn to have fun with it.

I was never made fun of for having Diabetes... Frankly, I think that's kind of lame, but then again, people will make fun of anyone who's different in some way.

I would just laugh along with them... I know it may not be funny, but if you show that it isn't a big deal for you, they'll be less likely to make it one. And they'll probably bore themselves sooner or later, b/c they cannot get a rise out of you...

I don't know any good diabetic jokes, but...

When I was in college, I used to work at the on-campus gym. There was this big dude that worked out all the time, and I can't remember what he said, but I came back at him with a "yo momma" joke.

He said something like, no you didn't. Let me tell you about my momma...and he proceeded to unload just about every "yo momma" joke in the world on me. And some were just outright terrible, vulgar. But by the time he was finished, I was beyond able to say anything back to him. He basically turned the tables on me.

Embrace it. It's not who you are, etc. Shoot, when I was in high school, we made fun of each other in the cruelest ways possible. I don't recall anyone making fun of my diabetes, but man-oh-mighty that may have been preferable to what they were making fun of (or making up).

I know the feelling... I also hear sometimes jokes around my diabetes comming from my work coleagues. Sometimes I even don't know what to think: if they are grown enough or are just stupid... if they don't care at all or they just don't realise.
Once we had a birthday party and one guy came to me and told me laughing: "See I can eat cakes!" ... I looked at him like at a very stupid little boy and I asked him if he is very proud of what he said. He realised the stupidness and got shamed, starting to excuse himself...
What can I say? I keep on thinking that they just don't realise what they say and don't intend to make me suffer but, still it is very difficult to keep up.

Be strong Sara!! i put up with some major **** in elementary school and high school... the ranting was horrible....people used to call me the sick kid like i was going to die or something....i was the only diabetic in my entire school.....and i really dont even think there were any in my town ::small town:: but it only made me stronger and pushed me to do health education in college so i can help teacher others about this disease and show them i am just like everyone else!!!

When I was in elementary school I was the kid that all the parents thought their kids could "Catch" something from, therefore no one was allowed to even talk to me.

That was hard.

Now I have so many friends it's simply amazing. But it's frustrating because none of them seem to care about my diabetes. When I have a problem related to diabetes they act like it's a burden.

All but two of them, and I guard them as true friends. these two really care, and can take one look at me and know if my blood sugar is high or low.

Honestly, I think I'd rather have my friends tease me, at least they'd acknowlege the bloody problem. *sighs* It wouldn't be a deep, dark secret, that only makes it's self known when it's convent to them.

People who make fun of others, for whatever reason, are in my opinion 'Nitwits'. Tell them that you don't think it's funny and if they don't stop then tell them to get lost.

i can take things said in genuine jest... but once someone actually LAUGHED at me because i couldn't have a desert, when he asked why i said because im diabetic... HE LAUGHED! i nearly punched him...

All I can say is that anyone who laughs at others for having a condition, is the true idiot! I also would not call them friend/friends. A friend doesn't make fun of you, they care about & are considerate of you.

Yes, I was made fun of in middle school for my Diabetes, but being the leader that I was, I didn't care. There were a couple of times I ratted fellow students out for being a**es. However, I continued to hold my head high. Never let these jerks bring you down, Sara. If You know the true you (who you are on the inside), then None of their words can ever tear that down!

if some1 makes fun of ur condition, then they are no friends. U gotta start dictating these guys, stand up to them, if u take offense to their jokes, tell them to shut their mouthes or u will do it for them. ive never been made fun of or anything, maybe part of that is i am bigger than any1 i know, they have to resepect ur condition and know its not ur fault

I always resond back with comments like

If you could handle a chronic disease maybe God would give you one

If you were diagnosed with cancer, HIV, AIDS etc.....don't think that I would not be support of your will to live....do what you have to to live etc....

That one usually is the most jaw dropping...needless to say I have only had to use these very sparingly...
