| | | Ups and Downs So, paul has been very good for along time now. he went to his parents and for two days his numbers were up and down, one time all the way up to 303. But the shocking part is he hasn't been THAT high since the wedding we went to a few months after he was diagnosed. He had the idea that maybe his insulin went bad. Hes still using the same bottle...and hes back down. Any idea why this would happen?? Hes on a antidepressent and I figured drinking and not eating the 'right' way would have a huge part in it.( hes mom doens't accomidate his food)
But he woke up fine the next day and it was the middle of the day he shot up?? We're confused.
Calling his nurse on monday.

| | | I don't know about Paul, but trips to my parents or in-laws are very stressful for me, even though I dearly love them all! The stress is really tough on my numbers, and eating foods that I don't normally eat doesn't help either. I've learned to deal with it, knowing that things will get better when I get home. Being on a pump helps too- it allows me to adjust my basal and bolus rates as necessary, especially if we're eating lots of high-fat food. That's always tough to cover with insulin, but there's lots of good ideas here on DF for dealing with it.
Good luck to you both!

Stuff like this happens. IMO, it is near impossible to keep your bg within non-diabetic range all of the time. Glad to hear he is fine. Probably nothing to worry yourself over...

| | | Why? There's a gazillion reasons. Almost certainly the liver is involved. If there's a diabetic that hasn't gone through this, I'd love to meet him/her.

| | I have learned to relax and not ask why, unless there is a repeated pattern I could perhaps do something about. It's gone, over and done with - so forget it!
It may be time Paul started "accommodating" his insulin to his food and not vice versa - diabetic life is much easier that way... especially as there are a lot of situations that will not allow you to be strict with your diet. It might do wonders for his outlook in life in general (I have been reading your other posts earlier). Try to get him to come here and do some reading.
Good luck and all the best to both you and Paul. |

| | | My blood sugars almost *always* go up when I'm at home. The food is free (as in, I didn't pay for it), so I tend to eat a lot more and I'm also sitting around a lot of the day. Then on top of that, I go out with friends to the bars, and alcohol always messes my BGLs up, so honestly it was probably just a waky weekend. Unless it's a consistent pattern now that you're home, I wouldn't worry about it. Just chalk it up to crazy circumstances and move on. If his numbers are better now that he's home, everything is probably fine. Just talk to the doctor or diabetes educator if things start going crazy again and this time you really don't know why.
