| | Rough Night At 10:30 last night I tested 76 so I ate 4 peanut butter crackers and some juice, I retested at 11 and I was only 78 so I ate two snickerdoodle cookies retested at about 11:10, 80 "yea its coming up" SO I went to bed and I woke up at 11:45 and felt like I was going to throw up, so I went a layed on the bathroom floor for about ten minutes...nothing happened so I went back and got in my bed and started to feel shaky I tested 56 'crud' I had the worst stomach ach ever and now my sugar was low....I just broke down I was so exausted I didn't wanna wake my mom up because she's a grouch if ya wake her up in the middle of the night. So I went in the Kitchen and got me a big cup of milk and a straw and sipped on it and went and watched t.v so that I would stay awake till my sugar came up. Finally at 1:00 it came up to 160.
(sry this was so long) Thats my rough night!!

| | Molly,
Sorry you had a rough night, hope you are feeling much better today. Us parents are often grouches when they are woken in the middle of the night, sorry about that, it's not just your mom. But, ya know what, sometimes we are worse if you don't wake us! Yeah, I know, you can't win!
Feel better,

| | | Molly,
Sounds like fun. Do you always get sick when going low?
Understand first off that meters are not accurate. An 80 is the same number as a 76, a 65 and an 85. They are approximate values only.
In addition to the reading, you also have to figure out why you went low and whether you expect it to continue. Perhaps you miscalculated your carbs or your activity was high. You'll usually be able to figure it out. It matters more as you get older and less able to pop out of hypos.
An 80 is a bit low for going to bed for many, but some of us do it fine. A 160 is definately too high IMO.

Do you have a tendency to drop in the night or other times?

| | Molly, sorry you had such a rough night. I've had lots of those nights in the past.
I was diagnosed at 14 and my mom was such a light sleeper, she always knew when one of us was up. And you always had to pass her bedroom to get to the kitchen.

| | Speaking of angry mothers ...
I was hypoing the other night, #4 this year, and my wife was feeding my juice and glucose tabs. The conversation apparently went
DW: "John you need to test!"
John: "hand me my cell phone."
DW: "John you need to test!"
John: "hand me my cell phone."
DW: hands John the meter "here John, test!"
John: "what if I don't want to?"
DW: shoves another Glucose tab down John's throat ...
She was not happy the next day

| | | You need to buy some orange juice to have on hand when your glucose is low like that. 1 glass of orange juice will bring up up quickly. I'm glad you bounced back! Lows are not fun! |

| | | Orange juice is great but will spoil over time. The best results for me is Capri Sun in the pouch. It really straightens me out fast and has an amazing shelf life. The are in my car, golf bag, hunting gear---almost everywhere. In fact, my Endo uses juice boxes and Capri Sun in his office when people get low. |

| | Sorry you had a rough night As the parent of a 17 year old boy I am constantly amazed at just how much teenagers have to deal with these days and he doesn't even have Diabetes I tell my son (Joshua) to call me when he is away on trips and I don't care what time it is... I'm also grumpy when awoken from a deep sleep but when it comes to my son I'd always rather know he was OK... I suspect that your Mom is the same way
