Funnee Diabetes Stories

When I was still really a newbie, my mum's friend was over, and I pricked my finger in front of her. Immediately afterwards, she asked "did it bleed (well duh)?" I said yes, and so she asked "where? I can't see it". This of course, prompted me to squeeze the tip of my finger... resulting in a fine spray of blood down the side of Elaine's face!

I felt awful at the time, and very embarrased, while mum was in stitches and Elaine just sat there horrified...

I don't think I'll ever forget the look on her face...

Ha Ha 2high, thats a good one. I don't have a funny really but i have quite a cute one. After my dxs i moved back home with my mum and lil sis daisy, everyone was worried and asking questions except my sis who was 13 at the time. So i get all my stuff ready and go up to bed (it had been a very long day!). About half an hour later my bedroom door opens and in comes daisy in her PJ's and doesnt say a word just gets into bed with me puts her arm around me and falls asleep.

She did this for about a week after my dxs until it had all sunk in, I have never told her but that was an huge comfort to me during that time... In fact i think i will tell her tonight

That was a sweet story, Befni. I hope you told Daisy!

I don't think this is a funny story, but I love it anyway. Hope you don't mind me putting a story that isn't funny at all on this thread.

Long ago, in a land far away, I was a cashier in a supermarket. At the time, I was one of the two people with diabetes on staff and drew a wee bit of attention to myself by going hypo somewhat frequently at work. As a result, many people knew the symptoms of low blood sugar and when a woman in the produce section spent ten minutes staring at the cauliflower and not moving they decided to call me and I was able to stay until she was back to normal (like an extended paid break). The funny part for me is that the company sent her a beautiful arrangement of flowers after and I never saw her again (perhaps she was so embarrassed that she never came back). Why didn't I ever get rewarded with flowers for going low in public? Jeesh.

You might have gotten a beautiful arrangement of cauliflower, if nothing else.

I certainly would have taken it!!

Oh, possibly funny diabetes story. A friend of mine, Ted, was a paramedic and in my lente days when I was having frequent early morning hypos that needed professional help, and when he treated me for a low in the middle of the night (I was in my late teens at the time, living with my boyfriend and not wearing pjs), he wrote "Ted was here" in a jiffy marker on my stomach. I started wearing pjs the next day.

how...sweet... (no pun intended)

During one of my frequent DKA admissions I was really out of it, with leveels of 39 and higher. There was this really sweet paediatric registrar at the hospital (who knew me well), and he was in charge of trying to insert the I.V. coz I was so dehydrated. After failing on numerous occasions to find a vein in my arms / hand, he told me he needed to go for my foot, and would I trust him? My answer, at the ripe old age of 10? "No, my friend told me to never trust a man, so p**s off!!"

Sorry, Dr. Luke...

However, when he brought me a glass of water to sip half an hour later coz i was so thirsty, I asked him to marry me (according to mum)

Go figure...
