insulin in your mouth

What happens if you get insulin in your mouth? It was in the cap of my syringe and I put the cap in my mouth. It tastes nasty but I wonder if it will hurt me at all?

No worries Jared. Besides the horrible after taste, it's not going to hurt you at all. The acids in the stomach and digestive system degrade the insulin, which is why we have to take it by injection and not by mouth.

Think it would taste disgusting, but I don't think it does anything else. I agree with Shy that is why we can' take it by mouth.

Jared,

I doubt you are in any danger. Probably the nasty taste is the only ill effect.

So why don't you people with children put insulin in their mouths when they use nasty words instead of soap?:D:eek:
