red wine & diabetes

3 posts in this topic

I read that red wine was good for type 2 diabetes, especially in lowering morning numbers. Can anyone give any insight into this?

Also, I've had like four glasses of red wine tonight so maybe I'll REALLY be reaping the benefits :D

I have a 1/2 to 1 glass of red wine at bedtime a few nights a week, mainly for my HDL. I don't see that it has very much effect on my morning blood sugars.

Until you know how it effects you, be sure and test throughout the night, as it might cause your blood sugar to drop.

It may lower your fbg, but will the headache be worth it?:D I do find that any alcohol will lower my morning number. The alcohol keeps your liver busy handling the 'poison', so it's too busy to pump out extra glycogen, thus lowering that pesky dawn phenom. I really don't know whether you are better off with or without alcohol. I generally don't drink much in the winter, but purely in the interest of science, I will try to have at least one drink every day at my cabin this summer.
