I just can't seem to string the good days together anymore. It's a constant one good, one bad, or one good, TWO bad. :(

 

My sleep has always been terrible. This isn't new for me; it's been a lifelong battle to get any amount of decent sleep. But as I get older, it's getting worse. I don't function very well on 5-6 hours of sleep anyway, but when you're young you can kind of shrug it off and keep going. Not so much anymore!

 

On the weekends, I usually go to bed around 11:00 or 12:00, and sleep until 7:00, and then take a nap in the afternoon. This actually works pretty well for me, but of course I can't do this during the work week, so by the time Friday rolls around I'm exhausted and don't feel like doing anything on the weekends except sleep.

 

The year that I was off and only working part-time in the afternoons was the most rested I'd ever been. I'd go to bed around 1:00 a.m. and sleep until 8:30 or 9:00, then most days also take a short nap. It's the getting up at 5:30 every day that kills me. And going to bed earlier doesn't seem to work as well for me as going to bed later and getting up later. I wonder why that is?

 

Anyway, I'm sure my sleep issues are not helping my BG any. I mean, of course my diet isn't stellar, but the lack of sleep doesn't help, either. I'm just a mess.

So sorry Vilya. I feel your pain. I tried guided meditation last night but still woke up before 6. Thing is I take a pill also and still get no sleep. Maybe it's an age thing.

I don't have any trouble falling asleep, it's the staying asleep that's the issue. I wake up a million times per night, and often will wake up around 3:30 or 4:00, and then I can't get back to sleep. I also thrash around a lot, so even when I'm technically asleep, it's not restful at all.

 

Insomnia is the worst. :(

Oh you poor thing. I was getting up like that when I was trying the 10 grams of carbs a day. I added some back in so I do get at least 4 hours straight now. Rest well.

Vilya - I am really to new to all of this to offer any comments.  All I can say is stay the course.  Don't let diabetes win.  Just do the best you can with diet, exercise , and attitude.  I know it is hard.  I post many positive things but I also know I am in the honeymoon phase with ClubD! and I am sure I will have setbacks.  When I go to bed at night and account for the day, I hate having diabetes.  I don't hate the changes I have made because I have it.  I would not have made these changes without it so, in a way, I feel blessed by having it.  How is that for messed up?

 

We are human.  We will make mistakes.  It is part of the beauty of the human condition.

 

It is possible you are simply a person that goes to bed late.  Everybody has a circadian rhythm and yours may just not tell you that you are tired until 11 or 12.  I have many friends like that.  There is nothing wrong with taking a nap in the afternoon.  There are many studies that indicate this is normal and, possibly, beneficial.  I understand you can't nap during the workday.  My friend naps from 5-6PM usually, goes to sleep around 1, then gets up at 7.

 

Too bad we don't live in a place where they have the afternoon siesta.  I understand dinner is not eaten until something like 8 or 9 PM.

I grew up in Europe, where we did have siesta, and dinner was at 9:00 or 10:00 p.m.! I loved having that nap time, and I do take naps on the weekends whenever I can. :)

 

Yeah, I'm definitely more of a night owl! During the summers off from school, when I was a teenager, I would go to bed at 3:00 a.m. and sleep until noon. Oh, that was nice! And several years ago I worked a 1:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. schedule, and that was so great to be able to sleep later in the morning. I do so much better being able to sleep later, rather than go to bed early and get up early.
