Hi there,

I have a few questions;

1.) What are the signs of LADA?

2.) How to get a dxd of LADA in the UK?

The reason I ask, I am concerned..

Since a kidney infection in Feb 06; my BS is 500-700 all the time. I have changed consultant and now awaiting results of a 48hr CBGM.

I feel crabby and am scared, been told I am healthy considering my high BS. MY sodium is very low due me drinking.

Any ideas??

I cannot believe that a doctor would let you walk out of his office with blood glucose levels above 500! They say you are health considering high blood glucose over 500, well, that just means you are not dead yet. Well, maybe not that bad, but bad all the same. At 500 you are considered bad enough to warrant being admited in a hospital to determine what type you are. They just don't send you home and wait for a result from a test.

At this point what type you are is important like it always is - but getting your blood glucose levels down, and I mean way down is paramount - not to be put off another minute.

Are they treating you at all for the high blood glucose levels? Or ar they waiting to see what to treat you with. It will be pretty much the same emergency treatment no matter the type you are. Getting your blood Glucose levels down takes aggressive and immediate treatment.

I assume you translated the BG from European to US measure and it's about 30

in that measure. That is extremely high especially since, according to your profile, you are taking a very large amount of insulin. I'd ask questions about your monitoring and your levels across the day, but you'll will have that in detail

soon when the CBGM is over.

Infection can bring very high and erratic BG levels. Are you sure that you are over your kidney infection?

It is useless to speculate without a little more understanding of your situation.

The best I can do at this point is to ask you to keep the forum informed of what's happening with you, and to hope that your new consultant (specialist) can get a handle on what's wrong.

That's extremely high... but I know you know that... How are your doctors advising you to treat your Diabetes? Are you on insulin? Oh, i just read that you are on Novomix... if you are still running high, then I think that shows you that your current regimen isn't working. I would suggest that you get on the phone with your doctor and figure out how to bring those readings down.

Couple questions... what makes you think you have LADA- how old were you at diagnosis? Were you in DKA? What were some of your symptoms?

I hope that you do figure this out. I'm sure being that high makes you feel very crappy :frown:- I was running those numbers before I was dx'ed and I would never want to return to that! I'm sure once you get better control, you'll be feeling a lot better.

Please know that we are here to support you :top:... don't be shy to ask questions or voice what's on your mind- we'll try to help

take care!

Thanks to all of you for replying...

Much appreciated.

4519- I am seeing the Diabetic Nurse today regarding my CGBM; but may have to wait til next week for a treatment change til the consultant can see me...

seacomp- I have had yet another kidney infection, but I am over both of them, their concern is ?nephropathy as have protien and blood in there. Plus pain :(

am1977- my diabetic nurse bought up LADA after she read my file, as I required insulin quickly in my diagnosis. I was 17 when dxd.. 21 now!

I have had slight DKA once, trace ketones and some electrolyte imbalance...

Before dxd- extremely thirsty, tired, went to the toilet loads, muzzy head, slow to recover from infections.. was dxd by a Paramedic friend from SJA...

Dxd at 17 probably isn't really LADA but classic type 1. That said there is some debate (isn't there always!) as to weather LADA is a different condition or not. How long has your bs been this high? An infection sounds the most likely cause but you could be type 2 and type 1 at the same time.

I was going to say the same thing... I was dx'ed at 24 and that isn't late.... I think LADA is for for people diagnosed with T1 after 30 or later. Yeah, it sounds like classic Type 1. I just read in your other thread that your levels are still high... hopefully now that you are on MDI, things will improve.

Hang in there :)
