Alright ladies, I had my daughter 2 years ago and was diagnosed as gestational diabetic. She was born at 37 weeks via c-sect weighing 9lbs 3ozs...big girl. I am 5'10 and hubby is 6'4 so big baby was probably going to happen regardless. Not until 4 months ago was I diagnosed with Type 1  We went to a fertility specialist and go figure my bgs were 720 and my A1C was 14.8. They said I had been preggo but miscarried due to high bgs. Well that is behind us we got the green light, in the last 3 months thanks to some very tight control I am at an A1C of 6.5 and hope to get it lower. Has anyone had trouble getting preggo at that number or is the dr. feeding me a line and that too high? Thanks I could use some guidance this time around :)

wow! excellent hba1c!! yes, you are absolutely fine to get pregnant with that hbac! My doc was happy and gave the green light with a hba1c of 6.9%, the most recent was 6.8% and I am now 21 weeks pregnant, all fine! It took me a while to conceive (10 months)! I am sure if that has anything to do with the HBA1C which is apparently good! Anyway, almost gave up then BANG! PREGGAS! its tough but keeps you in order being a type 1 and pregnant! have to be very strict but only 4 mths to go and I can have a glass of wine and a peice of choc cake! xx

I am now 9 weeks along and got pregnant after trying for 2-3 months with an A1C of 6.5. My doctor told me that 6.5 was a good goal and I was so happy to have reached it. I know that it is lower now. The average in my blood sugar meter, for the last month, is a 103 (closer to 6.0!).

I just wanted to let you know that you can do it. If you have brought your A1C down from the 14s and you are now in the 6 range, you are doing great!

Good luck.

redmel21 - I agree with the previous posters. What a great achievement to get your A1C down from 14.8 to 6.5! :congrats:

I went to see my Endo a couple of weeks ago and told him that my DH and I wanted to try to get pregnant. I told him that I knew my A1C was above 7, because I had looked at my 30-day-avg. BG reading on my meter and it was above 180. He did an A1C and sure enough, it was 7.3. He told me that they would like me to get it down to 6 - however, he never said we should not try until then.... Well, he also said that he knew I was obesessive and had no doubt I would get it done. ;)

hiya!

i too am a fairly new T1...just about a year in.

i have a 2.5 year old son, and had no problems with diabetes (gestational or otherwise) and delivered him (well, emergency C-sec) at 7 lbs 7oz at 40w4days.

last year, around this time we were ttc #2 for a few months...and i was a little dismayed (i got pregnant fast the first two times...like the first month of trying)

anyway, i was feeling awful...and found out i had T1. good thing we weren't preg!

we stopped trying immediately (obviously) until i got my A1C below 7 (endo's wishes). by may it was down to 6.6, but we decided to hold off on ttc until after summer.

at that point, my A1C was in the high 5s...and bam. got pregnant in September. i'm 16 weeks now.

good luck! and great work getting your A1C down so quickly!
