When was your first prenatal visit?

I'm 6 weeks pregnant. I'm wondering when you had your first prenatal visit with the OB?

I had an early ultrasound yesterday, but the doctor was not present. They were mostly looking at whether or not I have a bicornuate uterus. The nurse called me today to tell me that I do. Normally, that is a concern, but she said everything looked great with the baby on the ultrasound.

Most of what I am reading seems to suggest that I should have my first prenatal visit around 8 weeks. OB's office just called - they can't get me in until week 13. I asked, "Um, I thought I would have a visit before the first trimester is over". I would think with type 1 diabetes, hypothyroid, and a bicornuate uterus that they would be more likely to get me in sooner?

I have a million questions for them - I have a trip to Vietnam planned in September (I will be 23 and 24 weeks during this trip) - should I cancel? My husband I have a side-by-side ATV - is it ok for me to ride it? The OB's office hasn't asked me once about my last A1c or my insulin regimen or my thyroid medication. The appointment scheduler was the only person who has advised me to take a prenatal vitamin (of course I started one already). They haven't said anything about my diet, etc. I'm just kinda shocked that they are being so nonchalant about it all.

Who all was on your prenatal care team? I'm hearing about some women who see a maternal and fetal medicine specialist - some who don't. The nearest MFM specialist is 4 hours away from me in Denver. Seeing a MFM specialist, would likely mean that I would be delivering in Denver rather than in my home town and a lot of driving to Denver for appointments in the meantime.

My first appointment with the ob is at 13 weeks in two weeks. I also have hypothyroid. Although this is my first pregnancy, I trust that this timing is fairly routine and totally trust my endo who did the referral. You may need another ultrasound before the ob appointment. I have my first trimester prenatal screening next week.

So the first trimester prenatal screening is separate from your OB appointment?

Because my appointment was around the window of getting the IPS (12/13), my GP filled out the request. I had the first part (ultrasound and bloodwork) done prior to my appointment and will have the next round of bloodword at 15/16 weeks at my next OB appointment at the hospital. The OB is doing everthing from this point pregnancy related.

very late on this - but my first visit with Riley wasn't until 13 weeks. I transferred to another hospital after that visit though as I was very unhappy with the ob I saw. They didn't seem to care that my A1c was almost 13, at all. This time I'm at the same hospital I went to for the rest of my first pregnancy, and had my first ob and endo appt at 7 weeks. They did a second dating scan, and went right through everything with me. I have endo/ob appts every 3-5 weeks at the moment, and have had since the first. I'm 21 weeks tomorrow, and from 28 weeks onwards will see them fortnightly, then weekly after 34 weeks. I've had a quick scan at every visit, as well as my 12 and 20 week scans. They have a detailed growth scan booked for 26 weeks, and will book another for 32-34 weeks.

My first appt was about 6-8 wks. I knew I was pregnant, basically healthy, so I was going to see my normal family doc first, then see an ob/gyn. But, then I started spotting (got scared). Called an OB/Gyn right then. They got me in like 1 or 2 days. Did an internal sonogram. She said I was at least 6 weeks along, because they could see the heartbeat.

She told me to stop my job carrying mail at the post office. (I had JUST gotten hired about 6 weeks before). She said if my body was used to all the walking & carrying a 75 lb bag, that would be one thing, but with it being new, she said to quit. So I did.

I didn't get Gestational Diabetes diagnosed until about week 30 or 32.

This was 20 years ago.. .so I'm saying this with the best of my recollection.
