Metformin vs Insulin? Please help..

Recommended Posts

sma2783

I am newly pregnant (4-5 weeks) and I had an appointment with my doctor yesterday to confirm my pregnancy. He had said that he wanted to switch me from metformin which I have been taking since being diagnosed about 6 months ago to insulin. Is this normal practice? Has anyone else done this?

I trust my doctors opinion, however, I do worry how the switch could affect the growing baby. I also dont understand why the switch is necessary if my sugars have been staying in a normal range with metformin.

Yes they do it coz in third trimester your body will stop producing insulin. Don't worry it wont effect your baby. With type 2 diabetes I gave bith to healthy baby at full term on 39 week 6 day and I was on insulin from first trimester. With better controlled sugar you will rather have healthy pregnancy. All the best.
