What time of day do you take Metformin?

The prescription I have just said to take it twice a day. So I began with taking it with breakfast and dinner. My AM BG's have been high (even a snack at night) so I tried taking Metformin at bedtime last night and my BG was lower. Is this a fluke or should I keep taking it at bedtime?

I take 3 x 850 and have experimented a lot with timing. What works best for me is right before bed, around 4-5 am in the morning and around 9 am in the morning. So I take it all in a 10 hour span.

In my opinion, I'd take it when it does you the most benefit. Doctors say to take it with breakfast and dinner simply because taking it with food reduces the chances gastric distress. I've taken it on occasion with an empty stomach with no problems.

I doubt doctors care at all when you really take it.
