Type 1 pregnancy and Metformin

Recommended Posts

I have been a type 1 diabetic for 26 years and am currently 20 weeks pregnant with my second child. I discussed the possibility of trying Metformin during this pregnancy with my perinatologist early on and they seemed open to it. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with using this medication during pregnancy as a type 1 diabetic. I am hopeful that it will help with the resistance and prevent needing the crazy insulin doses that I was on at the end of my last pregnancy. I am starting to have some intense spikes after eating due to resistance and wasn't sure how early to start taking the Metformin. Last time I cut out a lot of carbs to help with this but am still have pretty severe all day sickness and carbs are the only thing that sound even remotely edible a lot of the time. Thanks in advance for any information!
