Early Pregnancy Highs

Recommended Posts

Hi there....has anyone else had uncontrolled high blood sugars in the first few weeks of pregnancy before even finding out you are pregnant.

I've had trouble controlling the unexpected highs during the night. everything was controlled prior to pregnancy but I'm scared to increase insulin since everyone says you will start getting lots of hypos in the first trimnester...any suggestions?

I had major highs initially during the first six weeks or so. I just increased my testing and corrected as needed. I had more lows during my second trimester. I'd just recommend testing more frequently. Do you have an endocrinologist or MFM?

For me, high blood sugars are the first sign that I am pregnant - not everyone gets the lows they tell us about. Correct the highs and have stuff on hand in case you need it. Ultimately, high blood sugar is more dangerous for a baby than a low - that only effects you (sad but true, the baby will take what it needs, which may leave you low, but there is nothing a fetus can do to protect itself against high blood sugar).

I only sometimes had lows during the night, but I always woke up, and drank some juice/ fruit puree, and went back to sleep. I actually invested in some little bottles and put 100ml of juice in them, so i didn't have to think, just drink and go back to sleep. Unused bottles went back in the fridge in the next morning.
