I forgot my Basal insulin, but I have my Lantus.  Can I take my Lantus now to cover my meal?  I need to take 7 units of insulin.  My blood Sugar is 200 right now.

Hello. So Lantus is a basal insulin.  The other kind is Bolus.

Bolus is meant to counter meals and be used for corrections like when your blood sugar is 200.  It generally starts working within 30 minutes and lasts anywhere from 2hrs to 3.5hours.

Basal insulin generally lasts somewhere close to 24 hours and provides a counter for what glucose your liver releases into your body.

If it is bolus that you need and it looks like you do, I would go get my bolus and take that.  They are NOT the same.
