I've often seen a dog sitting on the beach all alone, as if it's been abandoned like this Retriever in NZ.

 

Not abandoned at all but  very loyal to his human who is out surfing.

They even refuse to be distracted as they look out to sea.

The family reunion is wonderful when the surfer appears on the beach.
