158 today. Giving away bags of smaller / crunchier cucumbers to neighbors - feels more rewarding and takes less work than canning 😆 FunDad - hope your daughter pulls through with no complications 🌻

FunDad, thats reall sad news & My fingers are crossed that its a very mild dose if it actually is covid. I didnt know there was such a test kit. Is it this brand..ellume https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-02-03/queensland-coronavirus-covid-19-ellume-test-kit-brisbane/13115452 Irina, my tomato & passionfuit jam always looked darker then others & my choko/chyote pickles looked like mud, but the taste was amazing. Mother was a great cook & made a lot of jams. Melon & lemon was another favorite. She also made batches of rhubarb wine for Summer & the laundry seemd to be a hazard zone as the bottles would occasionally explode.

    What drives you bananas?

P.S. It took them 3 months to get the permits to spray lavacide while everyone was itching. It had go before the town's environmental committee, then state, and finally the National Park Service because the land is within the National Seashore. After it was all approved, somebody asked "Why didn't you get preapproval, that way you could spray anytime there is a mosquitoe outbreak." Duh.

150 today, it was 170 at 4am; i drank 16 oz glass of water and woke up with much lower number. Lee thank you for the recipe, I've not done tomato jam ever - never knew about it. Usually, I eat first harvest in salads, snacks, cook my eggs with them, side dish to anything really or pop them in my mouth any time; my favorite is mozzarella tomato basil salad with red onions and olive oil. Cukes I love but cannot eat that much of them. Second bunch of tomatoes usually become tomato sauce for winter, it tastes like summer when I make meatballs in January

126 My daughter tested positive with one of the over-the-counter test kits ($42). The only real symptom she has is loss of taste and smell and a slightly stuffy nose (since Tuesday). We're self-quarantining for a dozen days or more. Hopefully my vaccine will do it's job. I had an appointment to go get tested this morning but I don't see the point in it until she's negative. She's quite depressed over this.

Mosquitoes even breed throught winter here in my garden. I try to clean the ponds out most days & when I miss... the wriggles appear.

    What drives you bananas?

Mosquitoes! We had a bumper crop of them here on Cape Cod. During a winter storm the saltwater overwhashed a dune creating a stagnate saltwater pond that caused the outbreak of mosquitoes. ‘Biblical' Mosquito Swarms Plague Town on Cape Cod "This is about as bad as I've seen it," said Assistant Superintendent Bart Morris of the Cape Cod Mosquito Control Project

    What drives you bananas?

Hammer-- Insects like mosquitoes are attracted to the carbon dioxide you and any animal are breathing out and they hone in on where it's coming from--your face. Also that's most likely to be the least covered and easiest accessible in humans and animals. They are attracted by dark clothing or in animals dark fur. They don't like the smell of lemons or maybe it confuses their radar. Anyway when I garden during blackfly season I wear light colored clothing tucked in my socks and gardening gloves and a hat. I use citronella on my face neck and ears and any exposed skin. They may buzz around a bit but don't bite. I like citronella because it's less toxic than bug spray. If they get too bad I go inside for a few minutes and when I go out it takes a while for them to come back. I also don't give mosquitoes a place to breed I make sure there is no standing water in my yard after a rain Yes it does drive me bananas but other than protect myself and try to interrupt their breeding there's not a darn thing you can do about it

    What drives you bananas?

I am sure that this drives a lot of people bananas, but I mowed my lawn today, and I started to mow it around 4 pm, which I like to do to make sure the grass is completely dried out from the morning dew. When you mow your lawn, why is it that these annoying bugs keep flying in your face? I mean, they have your whole body to attack, but they seem to always attack your face. I don't understand why they attack your face. I was about to stop mowing the grass, and go inside and grab my electric fly swatter to keep the bugs away from my face, but they eventually began to leave me alone. If I had a place on my garden tractor, that would hold my electric fly swatter, I'd take it with me every time I mowed my lawn, but there isn't a place on the garden tractor that will hold it, and I'd rather not try to hold it in my hands when I'm trying to steer the tractor.

7.5 I deliberately use very little electricity to save the planet, as our power plants are coal fired.I guess I failed the planet this time. The clothes dryer , a small plug in pizza oven & column heater in the bedroom are the heavy users. I only watch tv about 2hrs a day. IIRC the last bill was high but I just paid it without a query. The money is there but I'd rather spend it on fun stuff. Irina have you tried making tomato jam? Even though I hate tomatoes the jam is awesome. I've only made tomato & passionfruit & cooked the passionfruit skins with it to get the pectin & remove them later. Tomato & pineapple would be nice. I just snip the cherry tomatoes with scissors & cook skin & flesh. Most remove skin but I cant bear the stench of tomatoes. Its a sweet spread which I think you call jelly. While looking for a recipe to post, Ive just found a savoury relish type using canned tomato & ginger.. I'll have to try that. https://www.delicious.com.au/recipes/tomato-jam/a2e557f0-f091-43d1-b214-c9f13974855f
