149 today, I was missing you guys too - it became a habit to check in in the morning with "diabetes cousins" and eat right and exercise more during the day because what are you going to report in the morning if you don't??

    2022 fasting blood glucose

It's soooo good to be back. FBG was 8 but it's been heaps worse. I've been drinking a ginger brew but the splenda isn't my friend. I've had no internet for two weeks and what a relief for my ego to find it was because of a corrupt sim card and not my weary brain. I don't usually do warm and fuzzies , but you morning people mean such a lot to me.

8.2 Noreasters are my favourite breeze here They arrive in Summer straight from the ocean . We've had a wonderful summer with no extreme heat, but we still have more time before Autumn arrives.

94 this morning. According to that cartoon, every storm could be a Nor'easter...

110 this morning. A Nor’easter is coming! Where? It is anybody's guess, a difference in 30 miles can mean the difference between a blizzard and a snow storm, they are predicting a foot of snow but… the storm hasn’t formed yet. The Connecticut coast will get the blizzard but how far inland it goes we will have to wait until Friday afternoon to know how much snow we will get. The storm is supposed to form and go through bombogenesis (I love that word!) somewhere off the coast. So place your bets ladies and gentlemen, should I buy a quart of milk and a loaf of bread or a six pack?

And the fun just keeps on coming...!😊 Let's see, I had to drive an hour and a half to get to the hospital that will be doing my surgery, just to talk to the surgeon. Okay, so the surgeon set me up to have a number of different tests done at various hospitals and clinics. I had to drive to a neighboring city to have some pulmonary tests done. A week later I went to my local hospital to have an ultrasound done on my neck to check out my right and left carotid arteries.(it turns out that my right carotid artery is 70-80% blocked, so that will need attention...probably surgery also.) Then, a week later, I had to drive to my local hospital again to have blood work done. The results indicated that I have low magnesium levels, so they called in a prescription to the local pharmacy for magnesium pills.(I was taking a magnesium supplement, but the surgeon's orders were to stop taking ALL supplements, so I guess that's why my magnesium levels were low...go figure.🙄). Tomorrow I have to drive an hour and a half to get back to the hospital that's doing the surgery, since they need to perform a specialized CAT scan on me. Then, early next week, I need to go to my local hospital again and have another blood test done to check on my magnesium levels again. At least with all of this testing, I finally found out what my blood type is...A positive. Then finally, next Friday, I go in for the surgery...if I don't get a cold or anything else by then. I had been thinking about driving myself to the hospital to have the surgery, as opposed to having my daughter drive me, but I thought about it, and if I'm in pain when I leave the hospital, I'll be on pain meds, and that might impair my driving ability, so I decided against driving myself. I'm also going to tell my daughter to not visit me when I'm in the hospital, and I told my friends the same thing. I just want to get in, have the surgery, then 5 days later, get out. I don't want any visitors, I just want to be left alone. I told my daughter that once she drops me off, the next time she'll hear anything is when I call her and ask her to pick me up. If instead, the hospital calls her, well, then she might need to call the funeral home. I'd hate for that to happen because I won't get to see the Super Bowl.😄

    Thrift-ing

I was right, the seller had SARS-Covid. It took a month, but he got the shirts out to me. yes, I wash things. Two GAP shirts were next. alpha shirts but one is a white strip dress shirt. The other a casual check. It is in the low 20's here in the morning. Sweaters go with everything.

    2022 fasting blood glucose

142 today. It was a lovely Spring like day 54F sunshine and no wind; snow returns tomorrow and we have to wait for March or April for another day like this. I feel depressed.. Mike, I found old BBC series and made my way through 15 episodes or so and it is a fun sitcom. New one is a little more realistic, more drama and I was watching it like a movie. As for ICU plants, when I bring them home and plonk the dry pots into bucket of water I can just hear poor plants "aahh! that feels nice!". Feels nice to make them grow again too 🌱

8.5 there's been a pesky March fly stinging both humans and dogs in the park causing grief to all. I'm hoping karma doesn't come my way as I killed it yesterday. I just hope it was a loner. I've been for moaning about lower back ache for a while and a radio discussion might have DX it... It seems elite athletes get it. Wow, I might be an elite athlete and didn't know it.

Hammer--It's not just men who feel the way you do. I hate it when people try to treat me like an old lady but I do accept help when I need it. That does not make me feel useless because I know I have a stiff backbone and do for myself most of the time.Yes it does make you feel good about yourself when you don't have to rely on others but everyone needs help at one time or another. All hospitals have the policy to release patients in a wheelchair and the reason is lawsuits. Those lawsuits have happened in the past. If a patient falls and hurts themselves leaving a hospital they could sue the hospital for negligence. That is why all hospitals have that policy. It has nothing to do with your ability to walk out of there. So don't feel dizzy or helpless. The wheelchair is for their protection and not there because they think you need it.

    Difficulty in Food Intake

Yes the keto diet is similar to what we do but keep in mind you are also battling cancer and she may not want to eat. It is essential that she not lose too much weight and is able to stay healthy. She will also be nauseous and that will have to be coped with. Try to keep low carb but also give her things she wants to eat. Maybe a protein drink will help too. Atkins and Premier make a good tasting protein drink that is very low in carbs and gives lots of nutrition. I like the chocolate but it also comes in strawberry and vanilla. I often have them when I'm not getting enough protein from my diet. Refrigerate them if possible. They taste better cold. Try for easily digested food so it doesn't lay heavy on her stomach. If she likes it you could try a spoon of peanut butter mixed with some crushed berries and a tiny bit of Splenda or other sweetener. Or make a smoothie with a few frozen berries a tiny bit of cream cheese, a little sweetener and low carb almond milk. It may be easier to drink than eat.
